Guess I never did post an after pic of my console.
I painted it a creamy white and added new hardware. Actually, the long handles I picked up for $9.00 each but the round ones were cheapy salvation army ones I picked up. I gave them a brushed look by sanding them in one direction.
I love having the extra storage for scarves, hats, gloves and crafts, etc.

Wow VG, you are so incredibly talented! That is one amazing transformation. You would pay a bundle for that piece if you bought it new. That first picture reminds me of the West Elm catalog. Nice work!
Thanks Skyler. It turned out to be a nice piece for $40.00. The 3 middle knobs cost almost as much as the piece but I think I got a great deal on those handles too. The paint I had leftover from another project and the other knobs were only a couple of bucks.

Brenda you are remarkably talented and that console fits the space so perfectly! The styling also is perfection and then to top it all off the utilitarian value of it is wonderful!
The only difference between you and Sarah Richardson is that you do your own work!
Gracie, thanks. I chose brown for the lamps because I had brown on the other side of the room and had to incorporate the color on the this side as well. I didn't want something too fancy either so these seemed perfect.
MB, these were pretty dated but they look much better polished.

That is so beautiful, I remember my parents having something similar to that back in the 50's and I think it looks 100% better in the white, it looks so rich.. Good job

Great job! I love it. Good idea on brushing the knobs. I've spray painted knobs before but never thought of roughing them up. Thanks for the idea. Hope I can remember it if I ever have the opportunity to use that idea. The whole console looks **$GREAT**$.

Dacia, thanks. I just got to thinking, brushed nickle, why couldn't I scuff them up and make them look brushed. Since I had extra ones and it wasn't a big deal if I messed one up, I decided to give it a try. I like how they turned out. The hardest part was getting into the very center.

Isn't it amazing what a coat of paint can do to a piece of furniture? Where I work, the pieces are almost always painted and the transformations are incredible...a sad looking thing will come in, something you probably wouldn't look twice at otherwise, and it get painted up and sells so fast it makes you dizzy!

B, paint is often all you need to make a tranformation. You should see all of the things I am selling to a neighbor who wants to open a little shop at her house. I had plans for all of these things too but I'll never get around to it, don't feel well enough most of the time. I'm going to stop in to see what she has done with them though.

VG, you've done it again! Love not only the console transformation, but the vignette.
I am a fan of painting things a shade of white and in fact just did so on a unique metal cutwork (made in India) cube stool that was formerly a chrome finish. Perhaps one day I can post a pic.
Till then, I never tire of your work, VG.
