Well tired of the Color on the Walls in my FR. Carpet is dark green/tiny spots of tan. Everything stays just want to change the color of the walls/bookcases & ceiling beams. The color in the back of the bookcases looks real orange but its not. One chair is a green and the other i have the pic of. Sofa a med brown. Like the southwestern style but up for any suggestions. Thanks.

Have you thought about green? Do you have an inspiration piece that you can pull colors from?

At one time I had it kinda dark green on the bottom and off white on top, the chair rail was a light green. What do you think of a sage green on the bottom? Then what would I paint the chair rail, beams and top of chair rail?? thanks for getting back to me on this.

It sounds like you might be going for some greens, but one color that has been tried and true for me is Tangier Island by Ralph Lauren. It's very earthy and warm and looks like it might go with your decor. Also I have a Behr green in my kitchen (as an accent) called Grasshopper Wing that is very nice and earthy as well. We also just painted our living room Humble Gold by SW which is very snuggly, warm. Anyway, just thought I would pass on some colors I have been happy with.

Oh and I think whatever you put below the chair rail should be repeated above a few shades lighter. And I would do the beams and chair rail the same color, whatever you choose. Maybe a brown that you have in your decor already.

I think the Behr's color was to dark with the dark green carpet. I did like the Tangier Island color, still trying to get the SW site to work to look at the other color. Also do you think the book cases should be painted the same as the walls?

I like the Tangier Island the best too. I keep suggesting it to people just because I am constantly amazed at how nice it looks in all different lights, etc.

We have beams in our living room and you know, we painted the wood ceilings, but left the beams natural and sometimes I wish I had just painted them cream as well. It would be less obtrusive and less imposing. If your room were mine, hmmmmm... I would probably paint the ceiling, beams, chair rail, and bookshelves a nice creamy white to lighten everything up. But that might take away from the southwestern style. My house would be perfect for that style. My dad went to college in New Mexico and always says my house has that appeal. We haven't decorated in that style though. It just has a rustic, warm quality.

Anyway, our other living room has the tangier island, then bleached almond by behr on the ceiling and my husband painted the corner built in tv cabinet Cottonseed by behr. It all looks nice together. We have camel colored sofas, a red patterned Persian rug, wrought iron lamps... Actually our furniture looks a lot like yours. Would you put a lighter rug over the carpeting to change up the look? Ours is lighter carpeting with a darker rug over...

some of the room... it's too messy to show you the whole thing! See how the color looks in the daylight? At night it changes. It's really nice.
