My sister buys an old rocker and fixes it up for each of her grandchildren (that is up to five!) She says she is burned out on these projects and won't do them for her new twin grandbabies.
Well of course I don't have anything to say about that but I will say that my sister is overwhelmed at this point. She is doing the three older children's laundry, preparing meals for the whole family and lots of baby sitting although they have hired a nanny.
Her DDIL did not do too well immediately after the deliveries and since she owns her own business she has had to attend to that although ostensibly on Maternity leave.
the problem with older parents having children (this mother is the age our mother was when she first became a grandmother and her husband is almost 50) is that the grandparents are really getting old and don't have the energy and strength to deal with young children and their many demands. Also many older grandparents themselves have health issues or are married to people who do.
That rocker is just like the one I had as a little girl !!! Mine was oak,but the same one. Think I might see if my Mom still has it. It's an antique now!! LOVE YOURS!!!
Ahhh, that is sweet, she does a great job on them.
Maybe she could do something special for the other grands that doesn't take as much work. Chances are, they may not notice anyway. I think things like this are a bigger deal for us grandparents than it is for the grandchild.
