Last weekend my husband and I decided to redecorate the room of our youngest son. We came across an article about painting a room with glow in the dark paint. My concern is that it might be too bright and our son will have trouble sleeping. What are your thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't want glow in the dark paint in any of my rooms and anything that would have kept my kids up later because they're looking at the glow walls would have been off limits.

I would not do all the walls in the room.I do think it would bother sleeping habits.Me,personally if my walls glowed in the dark when I was a kid,I would of been scared.LOL. Maybe one wall or paint a focal area on one wall.Do you have a theme going in this room?
Seems to me, from your link, that you are selling glow in the dark paint, which of course is not allowed on this board.
And then, why on earth would you make your children's rooms glow in the dark? I think in most instances that would be creepy and scary and hard to sleep in.
I don't mean the entire room or an entire wall. But just a few drawings like cartoon characters. By the way the site I mentioned doesn't look commercial to me. And I am most certainly not selling paint .

Julia, if you are seriously considering doing this, I would get a large canvas, or different sizes and let your kids, or child make the ART with the paint on it. Let them fully enjoy the art on the walls.
ONE thing that IS a FACT is that kids tire easily of new ideas. This way you will not have to prime and paint again on the walls, just prime the canvas and let them repaint! Their favorite colors change very often.
Also glow in the dark paint can't show the same intensity all the time it is up, it will get tired looking eventually.
I can't tell you how many times I hunted for the perfect blue only to find my grand daughter now liked another color!
You will also be encouraging exploration in art and self expression!

Mary, I love your idea! This way we can also remove it from the room if it bothers him too much. We still have to paint the walls nevertheless, but at least with the canvasses we won't have to paint it again anytime soon.
We don't want to use stencils, that's too easy Instead, we want to create some beautiful paintings. Perhaps it is a good idea to try it with real paint first

I am with Conrad....we got some florescent stars and put them on the ceiling in the play room....kids loved turning off the lights and seeing the stars. You can get other shapes besides stars...easy way to go.
When my son was a pre-teen he wanted flames on his walls (something I wasn't crazy about). At the time his wall color was a pleasant soft green and red and orange flames - well you get the picture.
Then I thought of blue flames and got some neon / glow in the dark grellow, plus blue and green and we did use a little glow in the dark grellow paint right at the center of the flames. They've painted over since - but thought you'd like the idea.
I did florescent stars on the ceiling when boys were small and they loved those too - not too bright at night - they glow with the light they charge in by day, and fade out during the night.
I was waiting for someone to come back with the self sticking glow on the ceiling stars. I'm never disappointed here. I just wanted to stick with the paint theme.
BTW, it appears my "call it a night" line went over heads.
