I was thinking about this just now...I don't know if I'll ever feel entirely "done" with my place. I'm close on my bedroom, but still need crown molding, art, and new flooring. It seems like such a daunting task.
Are you done with any spaces? Are you close to being done with any spaces? What's left? Or, do you think you'll always be "tweaking"? |

I will always be tweaking. Forever.

I will never be done. My home is my canvas and my nest. I'm always making changes.

The day I'm "done" will be a sad day lol. I love doing home improvements so much. A friend of mine asked me recently what are you going to do w/your time and money once you finish everything you want done in your house. I said I will probably sell it and start all over for fear I may get bored having nothing to do lol!

I don't ever want to be "done". I thoroughly enjoy the process and am not concerned with the idea of "perfection" like so many seem to be. That would just take all the fun out of it for me.

I'm never done and I like to make changes occasionally. DH never knows what he will come home to...oh I mean in home decor.

You know I learned last year that the idea that it has to "be done" is what keeps some people from loving to remodel or redecorate. As I was telling my friend about my plans for a bathroom redo, she interrupted me after the first two sentences to say, "When will it be finished?" This is a friend who wouldn't start a project I was going to help her with after I told her it would take about three weeks to finish.
I will reach points at which I am content to take a break but dont feel the need to finish. I too love the process. It is my only creative outlet. |

I don't think I'll ever be done. At one time, I thought, when I get this and this, then I'm done, however, I realize that the house is "alive" and always growing. New things replace old and sometimes the freshness comes just from rearranging on tabletops and mantles what I already have.

I don't think I will ever be done because even when I think I am, I will see something and change little things here and there. I think the only people that get done are the ones that don't change anything for 20 or 30 years. Even little pieces of furniture take me forever to find because I don't know what I want for that corner but when I see it I buy it.

Whew! Good to see I'm not the only one!

Although I'll tweak for all eternity, for me there's a difference between just freshening up a room and actually being done.
For instance, in our bedroom... I finally have painted the walls, laid new carpet, had wall-to-wall cabinetry installed, bought a new bed, all new bed linens. I still need to sew pillowcases and my valances. The rest of the window treatment is already "done." So, once the pillowcases and valances are sewn, I will consider that room "done" even if I choose to later rearrange some of the objects sitting out on display just to freshen up. The rest of our home is "done" in that regard, as well. The bedroom was the last room. Sure, there's maintenance further down the road. Eventually, carpeting has to be replaced, paint gets scuffed and faded, furniture wears out, tastes change, etc. That's a never ending story. |

I have so much to do and am so SLOW, I probably won't live long enough but I am making progress.

I'm a teacher so my summers more relaxed. I've decided that I'm probably going to paint a room each summer (this summer it's my sewing room, I did it last summer but this time I know what I'm doing). I've come to like painting and challenge myself to do a better job each time I do it. So in that regard, a room is finished for a season. I love buying accessories and figuring out ways to play around with them. So I hope it's never done!

At the pace I'm going, my great great ancestors would be finishing it up. I will surely NEVER be done. But I'd like to get to a point that I'm not constantly thinking about "gee, I need to do this, that, this, & that." I've got a long way to go. I am secretly hoping one of each of my kids will be an architect, a designer, and a handy man (or woman). That is my only hope!

Never, because then things will just need to be re-done; painting walls, new curtains, improvements here or there, changing technologies demanding different uses of space. Who knew about plasma t.v.'s or personal computers 20 years ago? Kids leaving home freeing up spaces to use differently. It all makes life interesting and fun, but the changes that have been made and goals achieved should still remain a source of pride and satisfaction!

I am looking forward to becoming a tweaker. After 11 years in this house, all but three of eleven spaces have been "done" at least once. We expect to finish the other three in the next year or so. Of course when we do that, we will be redoing the kitchen and the downstairs hall and foyer which are both done.
Here's our plan: "the addition" - summer and fall of 2008 kitchen/laundry/bath - winter 2009 Up and downstairs hall and foyer - fall 2009 After that I hope to be a tweaker! |

Ha! Never! I was going to quote one of the above answers, but then I kept reading and realized I agreed and identified with almost every single one! When I was young and naive I thought I would be "done" and that would be that...but I can never ever be done for so many reasons...things change, for all the reasons mentioned, and I like to have some change going on...but also, my home is really my passion, and I couldn't imagine not having that outlet. Done? When I d-i-e!
