due to time and well, dust getting into the holes. I found this vinyl at Hobby Lobby and have decided I am going to paint it the same color as punched tin though. I'll use leftover luan to firm up the back of the fabric and paint the same color as the cupboard door. My question is this - spray paint or regular paint? Do they even make metallic paint in "regular" paint? I thought I'd ask y'all instead of driving the 30 miles to the home improvement store. I'm not sure our local Ace Hardware would even have anything like that. I guess I could go bug Christie again - wouldn't be a first! Tammy ![]()

I think you could either, what a great idea! The metallic paint to use a brush with would be found best at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. The ones they have at the hardware stores might be where you can use to paint out of doors such as screen door repair, etc. and smelly to use indoors. You doing the whole door in metallic? or just the center panel? Tammy is ON the job! LOVE your idea! Creative! I am thinking they do make spray paint in the color you want. I am almost sure I have used a matalic spray paint before, but darn if I can remember one what. This is just for the insets. If ya remember, I started cutting them out a few years back. The door frame if that's what ya want to call it is Glidden's Crisp Linen White. I do have a can of the Polished Nickel spray paint. I used it for a colander I painted and hung as a light fixture above the kitchen sink. I actually need a larger colander but it'll work for now. I know I don't want to get too much paint on there as each coat will take away some of the embossing. I also don't want it to "crack" while securing it. So, I'm thinking I should secure them onto the luan first and then paint. That should minimize possible damage to the painted fabric, right? Tammy

I was thinking that is the way to do it. Paint is pretty pliable these days to a degree. It is a good idea to assemble first so no scratches happen anyway. That textured look with the linen white will be TAMMY-FABULOUS! or Tambulous! LOL! We'll see! BUT here is the vinyl sprayed painted the polished nickel. They sent the fabric in a box instead of on a roll so there are wrinkles in it. Grrr! I think I'll be about to smooth them out when I glue the vinyl to the luan and use a braying roller. Please cross your fingers! Once the paint is dry, I'll take a pic of the door sitting on top of it. But here is the first coat of spray paint on just the vinyl. Tammy ![]()

This is the door in the testing phase. Nothing is secure or finished. Will also topcoat it with a clear to help protect it. Tammy ![]()

Do you think it's possible to iron the backside of the vinyl in hopes of flattening out the wrinkles first? Won't use too high of a heat. Tammy

I'm also thinking this may look really cool as the backsplash too! I'll have to see if it would be "too much" after getting the doors up. Tammy

I've seen that vinyl in different colors at the upholstery fabric shop near me...I had contemplated using it on my chair seats but went with an outdoor fabric instead. Love your idea of using in your door inserts.

Looks cool! And of course we have metallic paints in spray and aluminum in cans. I'd probably go with a spray though. It'll be much faster and not as much pooling in the pattern. Christie

Always - I saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I have been staying away from those stores - TOO DANGEROUS for me!! lol Christie - It's looking even cooler as the backsplash too! Do ya happen to have large jugs of Elmer's glue there? This is would a FABULOUS ceiling treatment - not in this room but ya know, there are other rooms I need to do! And I also love your idea of using it as wainscoting too! Need another 40% sale!!! Tammy ![]()

Oh, it's lovely as a backsplash! It would tie in the cabinet doors as well-unless of course it overwhelms the space. See what you think after the doors are back on. I've seen that pattern in several places including eBay. Might check prices at some of the online stores. We have lots of adhesives including the large sizes. Check isle 4 past the caulking. Is that beadboard already in the backsplash area? I like that too. Can't wait to see how it all comes out! I like the pattern on that vinyl. looks super in silver! Christie - Yea, definitely going to get the doors up first and then evaluate the possibility of using it as the backsplash. I'm playing with the first door to see best way to put it all together. Had a small amount of fabric on a roll so I stole the roll for this. I'm hoping it'll take some of the creases out of the vinyl. MR - What you see behind the vinyl sample is painted paneling. On a budget so I decided to paint the paneling. This may be nice to break up the vertical lines a bit as well. Ok - waiting for glue and paint to dry is like waiting for a pot of water to boil. I'm much to anxious to see this on the door and installed to the cabinet. It has been years since some of these cabinets have had doors. And I WANT IT NOWWWW! Yes, I have some Varucca (Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory) in me as far as patience goes!! lol Tammy

Mine wasn't fabric, it was heavy, textured wallpaper...we had ugly brown formica backsplash which made the area too dark, so we glued (elmer's) the wallpaper to the formica, painted it and voila! instant (gorgeous) backsplash. Not sure if your vinyl will work, but worth a try. **Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain**
