This is an information storage site for resources for when painting furniture or wood in your home. It satisfies my need to research, and store technical information! LOL

NO NEED TO LEAVE COMMENTS ON THAT SITE (sorry I typed in caps, my Bold or Underline does not work on my text box here), just sign the guest book so I know you visited. Feel free to check the links (let me know if any do not work, thanks).

No need to JOIN to view posts. IF you want to become a contributor with photos of your projects, let me know here on this thread. You will recognize some of the posts and photos from Brittany Dog Mom (Gail) and Victorian Girl (Brenda) two of our Veteran DIY Divas!

I made this site for myself and added a couple of friends to also contribute. If you have any questions as to how something works, you can post a question under that thread or place where you found the information. Or save the link to the actual site and post your question there.

I would like to keep this particular site for storage of information only (no Off topic conversations please) this is not that type of site, just consider it the beginnings of a small library on one topic. Like a huge thread for similar information found in one link.

I have one started for upholstery as well, will post that link soon.

These two sites have helped me so much in saving my research finds for a one-stop area to store what I have discovered on a topic.

I hope to start another on Decorating steps and information such as technical information on how to approach decorating. Some of my college notes and references will be my sources as well as scanned photos and info from my large decorating book collection. I will probably start with something I need to research first, then it will help me organize other topics. (any ideas for topics please share!)

Shutterfly has a Blog interface front page now, so that one can interact with their photos. This is like storing photos, but so much more! It is FREE and easy to start. I am still learning my way around this to learn how to use it better.
Instead of storing all the links of great information I found online and shared by others on boards, I just started storing the information, I take no credit for all the photos nor information. If a project is mine or someone's who contributed the photos, I credit that person. Otherwise the links lead to Blogs or places that have tutorials, so the credit is the actual place I found the information.

Keep the link if you plan on painting something in the near future, you might find some tutorials and information that could help your project.

Would love your comments about this site posted HERE in this thread please! I have been tweaking the site and have lots to learn and you are my 'test' audience!

Also if you have any great sites that pertain to 'Painting' furniture or painting wood, and you want to share, I will post on that site for others to enjoy.

My Pinterest 'Furniture Rethought' board for storage of Inspirational photos of painted and furniture changed in creative ways to provide Inspiration for any project you might want to do. Gets creative juices flowing!

Thanks for helping out! I look forward to reading any comments AND suggestions from you experienced posters here!

Love your Pinterest board! I am crazy about painted furniture, but have no aptitude for it, and no room at all for any more furniture.

That said, I love eye candy, so I will be checking in periodically for some goodies to gaze at.

Best of luck on your wonderfully creative endeavor.

Mary Ruth, I've added your new site as well as your Pinterest sites to the "Our Homes" thread. Hope you don't mind!

Thanks so much for doing this, I know how much time it takes to do such sites, altho so fun to have a record of the inspiration some of us love.

Mary Ruth, I have some things to contribute. Feel free to use or not. Your choice.

This small bureau I painted to sell. As you see the pattern on the top, coming down the front and sides is made by the use of a lace piece.

This is one of those book tables that boys used to make in woodworking classes in the '30's, '40
s. The ends of it made me think of a vase I have, so I painted the vase pattern on the table ends.

This was basically just copying. No great skill needed.

This is a small chest that combines decoupage with paint.

Furniture is painted and then cut paper elements applied.

LOS,
Thank you for the great examples of furniture re-thought!

Link to post on painted furniture site:
http://paintedfurniture.shutte...orumforcomments/2/10

I love them all! Shows creativity and that vase cabinet is amazing! I love projects like that!
Thank you so much for letting me post these pictures! I have linked them back to this thread.

You will notice I blurred faces on the photos on the drawer unit just as a precaution for internet safety.

Doesn't matter Mary Ruth as we are definitely out there anyway but for my further info, how do you do that? I had wanted to post pics of trick or treaters but thought better of it because of that!

Oops, forgot picture. also do you want descriptions of how projects were done?

Do you want suggestions of books that could help? Jocasta Innes, Painted Furniture is a great book. In fact I may have an extra copy if you want it. P.M. me if so.

Here is another piece. For many years I had a yard sale every summer. I loved re-doing things for that sale, sewing, painting, remaking etc. Lots of fun on projects that I then didn't need to keep! LOL

I think your site is wonderful and I look forward to other ones that you will start too.

Thanks, just repacked some of my decorating books and found a couple of 'wall faux finishing' by Jocasta Innes, I do not think I have the furniture one, will have to look again, and I had two from Annie Sloan I bought about 5 yrs ago. I have another by Debbie Travis, used to love her shows.

I think your photos show the work except for the lace, if you could describe to me how you did it. I thought the surface was white, then lace applied, then painted, then remove lace?

what a cute small chair! playful for a child!
The way the economy is, things do not move quickly at yard sales around here. Too bad, I loved having them... I love doing projects but will have to tone down what I do.

Supplies are larger most times than the project, so I end up with lots of small jars of paint, cans of paint, brushes... etc. I NEED a studio! LOL

Mary Ruth,

What a great idea to have a site with all the information in one spot! Lots of inspiration and how-to which is so helpful.

Thanks for sharing the site and love to see the upholstery one when you have it done.

I will let you see that one early!

So happy about the response!

Upholstery storage site, same conditions as above:
http://upholsteryclub101.shutterfly.com/

This is for my die-hard friends who are learning upholstery. When hunting for a good deal, sometimes we have to rush some research to find fabric on sale and to price out if a piece is worth the work. That is how I got started with this easy to find area to get the information.

Sometimes I find something but don't need the information right away, then it gets lost in layers of other info, this way I just go to the site.
I have to add more information on both sites about tools and supplies.

These are a work in progress! Thanks for your encouragement!

Mary Ruth, I wonder if you are familiar with this site: http://www.straightlinedesigns.com/ They are located in Vancouver, BC and I plan to order something from them when I edit my house a bit more. It's not all painted but is very creatively designed.

Also there is a co. in the UK that has eclectic stuff: http://www.jimmiemartin.com/ Don't click if you are easily offended, some pieces are irreverent. Some of their more respectable pieces are shown on this blog: http://styleredux.blogspot.ca/...hort-to-be-dull.html

Actually the chair was full sized!

Probably with the lace chest, I would have painted the white, then laid the lace on and spray painted the green.

Here is another piece. this was a very fast job (remember because a friend stopped by when I was doing it and she was amazed how fast it went)

I used lots of different kinds of paint. Oil, latex, & different finishes. Didn't matter as so little paint is used. Think I used sponges and brushes and maybe a cloth to put the slick of dark on the raised surfaces.

here is detail.

Mary ruth, in your collection I find I am most drawn to the painted finishes that also have painted designs on them. Am I too old to try my hand at that? LOL

Lucky,
Thanks for the links! I have been to a couple of those sites. Will have to really view all they have and lead to. Very UNIQUE items! I love some of them!

LOS,
I didn't notice that was not a child's chair with nothing else in photo to get scale of it. But what a FUN chair!
I love the mirror too, I like how your work added a lot of interesting texture and colors and has a unique look and feel to it.
