Our find this AM is that Isaac is not going to come towards us on the Central East Coast of Florida. Thoughts and Prayers for those in Louisiana on their 7th Anniversary of Katrina. I live in south florida, happy to only get rain, and some wind. No damage. I can't wait till this storm passes, so I can get out and shop at my favorite thrift stores.

My dear aunt passed away and I went to help my cousins clean out the house and set up for a sale. They gifted me a crock butter churn, blue canning jars with glass lids, wood crates, and other treasures. ~DaciaB UPDATED 06/20/11 http://user.midlands.net/dacia/ "Worms Eat My Garbage" http://pinterest.com/daciabb/

I said I was not going to buy any more vintage linens -- I was not going to buy any more vintage linens and at estate sales I was not going to LOOK at any more vintage linens but on Friday -- these came home with me! A pile of monogramed linens -- 20 pieces for $5!!!! They belonged to the "Ts" -- E (Edith) and R (Roy) or would that be E (Elwood) and R (Rose) for isn't it proper that the middle initial is the last name and the gentlemen's name is on the left and the lady's on the right? Or is it proper that she was a "T" before she married and she was Edith Rose? They're wonderful! ![]()

Seven are luncheon size and 12 are dinner. You can see the difference -- dinner size being much bigger and I think this is the only big dinner size napkins I have! Martha ![]()

I hope all of those in the path of Isaac stay safe and experience no damage. Daciab, my condolences on the loss of your aunt. I hope you'll share pictures of some of the treasures she passed on to you at some point. Linderhof, I'm enjoying your attempt to avoid indulging in one of your passions. The only way I can avoid mine are to stay far, far away from any venue that might feature them. That said, I love your napkins and I suspect that the T would stand for Rose's maiden name. I think the custom of using the husband's and wife's initials with their common surname is a fairly modern invention, yes?

Martha you and I share the same weakness for linens and I adore monogrammed ones also! You find incredible buys on these. Congrats to all those who will be avoiding damage to other MMF's by not having Isaac cause them any harm! Dacib, sorry about your Aunt's passing but how nice of her children to be generous to you. http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop...sea%20glass%20mirror I found this sea glass mirror at the swap shop saturday. It still has the L.L. bean tags and price tag of $129 on it! Also got an adorable sort of wagon thing. Someone was dropping it off just as we pulled in.This message has been edited. Mary Ruth and 5bells, Yes, lots of wind and rain here on the East Coast from the long tail of the storm. Stay safe! Dacia, I am sorry to hear of your aunt's passing. Enjoy using the special items from her house. Martha, Love the style of the monograms. Such fun to imagine the people's name that used them. LOS, That's a beautiful mirror with the pretty glass colors. Such a find! Here's the front roadway with more rain coming down. Thankful that we only have a TS and not a hurricane to deal with. ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives ![]()

Martha, I have a weakness for beautiful linens too. Those are really nice finds. I picked up an ikea island at a yard sale. I think I'll paint the bottom silver. You can move around easily and everything opens fine with it in its place but do you think my kitchen is too small for it? It has another shelf that goes underneath and a drawer on the other side. I also has a side piece to add knives, cuttings and a cloth Ignore my countertop please, some things are out of place. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg**** ![]()

VG -- I saw "no" -- but then that's me and if you could see my island and my kitchen . . . but I can cook for 100 at a time there because everything is laid out perfectly and the island is a boon! Cute puppy! Martha
|
LadyofShallot, good find at the swap shop! VG, I think that work bench looks like it was made to go in that spot. I'll bet you'll find it really useful. Looks like the pup's searching for a snack...

5bells, Hope you get back to thrifting soon! daciab, So sorry to hear about your aunt and your loss. I am happy for you that you have some treasures from your family to have about you in your home. Linderhof, How could you turn away those great linens! LOS, Nice mirror! VG, I would leave the table just as it is! Nice addition to your kitchen! And a special place to hold more things! Nice island VG! I wish I had room for one. I think I'd leave it as it is (color wise). It blends in very well with your existing cupboards. At least live with it for a while before painting it. Then decide. Cathy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Grandchildren are God's gift to you for not killing your own! We don't stop playing because we grow old...we grow old because we stop playing

Emily, missed your find, love it. I have some sea glass waiting to be turned into something. Thanks for the input ladies. I show a couple of more pics of it. If I leave it this color, it needs another coat of poly. It has this contraption at the end ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg**** ![]()

My dog eating his supper in a bowl. He has his water in the other dish. It also has this drawer on the other side. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg**** ![]()

I wasn't planning on posting because it's been such a long day and I'm afraid I'll comment and leave someone out. LOS, that mirror is beautiful! Linderhof, I'm pretty sure that those beautiful linens belonged to Emily and Robert. NO, NO, NO victoriangirl. I love the island and I think it works well in your kitchen (mine is small but I still love my little island). But, NO,NO,NO maybe the legs need a coat of poly but the top looks like butcher block. If it's been oiled like it should have been, poly will not stick and you'll have a mess. I'm not sure about the silver, I love the color as it is with your cabinets, but if you insist, what about black?

I love your island and it seems by the photo that it is the perfect size for you kitchen. I have an island that has a towel bar on one end and I love it with a roll of paper towels on it, it is by the micro wave and those towels are so handy, it has a knife rack on the other side and I have never put it on because I have a rack on my counter. Wish it had a towel bar on this side also. WandaThis message has been edited. Last edited by: gmvj,

Jaysmom , I have to say, I am enjoying having it there now that I'm getting use to walking around it. I made my pies on there today. Do you know what type of oil is used on the top? Goldiesmom, that would be an excellent idea to put paper towel on the roller. The only thing is, towel bar doesn't come out. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

VG you can find butcher block oil at Lowe's Home Depot and sometimes in your supermarket. Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/
