Is there a "special" paint for trim or will the regular wall paint do?

my painter said the best trim paint was high gloss latex. we used it in a lowes valspar product. looks great and washes well too.

I've been using Valspar Semi-Gloss white to paint all my stained trim. I also used their brand of latex primer. I'm very satisfied with both. I used Kilz primer when I first started this painting project and I like Valspar much better. It's thicker and goes on much better.

I agree with lens as to the valspar primer. I too used kilz and 123 in the past and the valspar primer is better than either of the better known brands. In fact 1 coat of valspaer latex primer and 1 coat of valspar latex gloss was all it took to really get a great job.

It's best to use a gloss or semi-gloss on trim.

I think the choice of finish is a matter of what you like. I used semi-gloss.

Very interesting about the Valspar primer...hmm...I've been using the 1-2-3 as well and wasn't all tha impressed with it.

Thanks! It does look like the rest of the house trim is in a high gloss.

Any "easy" way to paint baseboards without getting paint on the carpet/floor?

we used 2 inch painters tape . DD held the area down with a wide putty knife and I put the tape on. it took some time but no paint on the carpet..you could also use stright edge to hold down and pull back the carpet .. it really helps if two folks work on this. we only did the nursery, but I saw the pro painters use the same technique all over the house.
I really love the latx high gloss too.
cant wait to see pics of yours.

Duh, tape!! Thanks Sonny! I've got an ongoing project going on and hopefully will be done by Christmas! If I just didn't have to work, I'd have plenty of time to paint!
