I need help with our new home's wall space. While I love the tropical/beach look, I'm not sure how to go about doing the space above the TV and dining area with the wall color. Help!

what about some crown molding? not a complex molding but something simple for a cottage feel...are you attached to the deep color? there's such a pretty color in the sofa...as for above the tv, i'd let it go, or wall mount the tv higher...

the dining space would be perfect for a beach scene picture..until you find something personal, got to art.com and do a search for beach prints...

Have you considered wall decals in a tropical or beachy theme? Look for white or black silhouette decals that cascade from the dining area into the living area such as hibiscus flower or palm trees. The beauty of the decals is that you can custom place and remove with ease. The following link may state for kids, but some of the decals are adult worthy too.

Optionally: staggered rows of white floating shelves with lined up star fish or coral.

IMO the space above the TV does not need embellishing.

What I'd do is go beachcombing to find some interesting sculptural pieces of driftwood and hang them on the DR wall.

Make sure you treat the driftwood to eliminate any creepy-crawlies before bringing it indoors.

I agree that the space just above the tv can remain void, but a trickling decal that lightly spills onto the living space area, but is mainly concentrated in the dining space is perhaps a consideration. This is why the floating shelves instaggered rows option should still be on the table (figuratively speaking). Then, shallow art objects that depict the feel you seek can be featured and easily changed out. Keeping one element such as starfish, coral or sand dollars could achieve this uniform theme in a simplistic manner. Optionally a shadowbox or glass dome can highlight special seaside finds too. Do not go overboard (no pun intended ) tho. This wall area isn't that vast. Even one large framed print (I have one of shells close up in whites and beiges from Michaels craft store) in a white or black frame can do the trick for the dining area.

Use paper templets to play w/ placement if grouping a common theme in identical frames if you desire a gallery grouping.

Could you take a photo of the whole wall? What is to the right of the TV?

Least expensive solution:
IF the wall feels too long for you, tape off some of it (to the left and right of TV) and paint the wall in the trim color or another color you have in your house. This will give your TV a 'space' to be on its own.

Moderate expense solution:
Purchase trim to add to the wall to section off that area of the TV, creating a 'wall unit' of sorts by adding the trim and paining inside that trim to make the room limits for the TV area.

You can also use a silk palm on one side and a folding screen on the other side of the TV to divide the space and add some height. I would put the screen on the dining room side, even behind the sofa maybe.

Most expensive solution:
A wooden bookshelf, or columns on either side of the TV area and make the space feel like a separate room to hold the TV, thus breaking up the long wall.

You can also purchase a larger TV unit with storage above as well as on the sides. This will give the center of the room the most weight and feel like a separate TV room.

I like the color on the wall, I have that color in one of my guest rooms, and pause to view it each time I walk by.

If you section off the center with another color, you can also match it to the sofa color, or the wood tones in your furniture (like a darker calmer beige.

And the wallies that were suggested are another nice way to break up the long wall as well as hanging art or pictures above.

You have a nice space and you can let it sit like this until you figure out what kind of feeling you want for that long wall, it is nice as it is in the meantime!
