I just built a new house and would like to do roman shades in the family room. I have transoms on each window and would have to do an inside and side mount. What color roman shades should I go with? The family room, kitchen and dining room area all open to eachother!

Do you want to go with an actual color or stay neutral?

Well, i was thinking maybe a vintage gold color. I bought a few different kinds in the linen color family and it did not look good at all. Maybe something like this color, what do you think?

Since the dining room is open to the family room, I also need to make sure and stay close to the drapes I bought for the dining room. I have included pictures of the drapes. I havent put them up yet.

I like your choice for the roman shade - it goes well with the DR drapes, but is more casual and adds some pattern and texture. Are you going to hang the romans below the transom? I think keeping the transom window open is preferable unless you have just too much strong sunlight coming in. If that's the case - you might consider a UV film which will save furniture/rugs from fading.

Very pretty windows - seems a shame to cover them up!

I am going to hang the roman shades right below the transom. I think we are going to come across some challenges doing the side mount under the transom but I definitely do not want to cover them up.
