christaelaineWhere can I find this item?
Hi everyone,
This is my first post on here so hopefully this is the correct place to post this question... tell me if not and I can delete it and repost it where it needs to be.
Ok so, I am working on decorating my room as I just moved. I've attached a photo of a project I would like to work on. My question is regarding the valance box. I guess that's what I would call it? I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find an item like this.. I like that is it ornate and I already have a piece to put below it as well as curtains to install. But I have looked around and cannot find anything like this box.
Link to the photo as well:

Any I've explored the idea of making one but prefer not to at this time.

annie17You can to the right place.
I spend way too much time on DIY blogs but my first thought is finding an old decorative shelf
to use as the valance. Seems like we had a member do this in the past.
This pic is not exact but will give you an idea of the type of shelf that has been used.

GraciepjOne name for that piece is corona. Here's a picture from Houzz.com where someone turned a metal shelf bracket upside down to make one. If you spray painted it gold, it would be one option for you.

GraciepjAh, Annie, I see we had the same idea.

Another idea that would require more work would be to buy a used ornate picture frame, deconstruct it and then use the pieces to form a box shape similar to the one you've posted.

annie17Gracie,
glad you knew what they were called. I didn't have a clue!!
I just looked at the pic again and noticed the use of molding which is also an easy diy.

christaelaineThanks everyone!
Now that I have an idea of what it's actually called, I can probably look better. Seems like most of them are very expensive.
I may buy edging/framing/molding planks (I obviously have terrible terminology) as suggested and build it. The reason I think that may be the best idea is because I can control the depth. I want to be able to fit a dual curtain rod behind the "box" and may not be able to fit the dual if something I buy isn't deep enough.
I'm going to keep looking for something pre-built as well but I don't have high hopes mostly because I feel like it will be expensive.
Thanks again!

Beau's RoseDing Ding!
A few here for you. They could be spray painted too. Hope that helps and please post pics when you finish your project.

christaelaineBeau's Rose, those are exactly what I was looking for... they are beautiful!! $200 is a bit much for me to spend but at the same time looks like a bargain for those!! They are so pretty!!
I may just splurge and do it, why not. I dont see the hassle in making one when I can just buy it.. it's not that expensive, kind of lol.
This site calls them bed crowns so I will look for that. Maybe I'll find one under $100, who knows.
Thanks again!!

christaelaineJust so yall get an idea of what I have, I attached a picture of my bed as is now, a pic of a lamp I am incorporating, and a pic of the center piece I have.
My problem is, I have a whole furniture set in my bedroom that I don't particularly like which is why I am trying to change/cover up the style without changing the furniture itself (because it doesn't belong to me).
Excuse the centerpiece, yes it's covered in dust because it's in storage as is the lamp. I don't have a photo of the fabric I already have that I plan on using. It's more modern but if I don't like it I'll buy some new fabric.

gmvjHave you looked at wood window boxes? the one's that attached to the bottom of a window to plant flowers in and then buy some wood pieces(or plastic) glue on and paint.

christaelaineThanks Wanda, that's actually a great idea. I have seen those ornate decorating wood pieces at the craft store but never used them. That would work too. Now I have lots of options to work with.

joyluckThis isn't quite the same but I have used a decorative filigree hose holder I bought at a yard sale very inexpensively (maybe $2). Had DH paint it and attach to the wall above the center of the bed in one of my guest rooms. I then draped a very long lace curtain scarf over it and around the edges of the headboard. Here's a very similar one:

christaelaineThanks Joyluck,
This is a great idea as well. Do you have a photo of your guest room by chance? I'd love to see the final product.
