Hello!

The kitchen is almost done, I'll get other photos when it is completed but, I need to pick a tablecloth. The new cabinets are white and the countertop is a brown/gold/ivory formica that looks like granite. We're talking a shoe-string budget, haha.

The before photo was the set that was here when I got here,I bought the new one at a used furniture store. It is an old ice cream parlor table that I sanded down, repainted, and had the cushions done in a skinny stripe.

It has all the colors in it that are through out the house. The color on the walls looks much more yellow than it is, it is a softer color, BM Golden Honey.

I am not sure what kind of tablecloth I want for this, I never did anything with the top of the table and it is the old formica that has to be covered.

Should I go with a solid, another pattern? Shorter or longer, what kind of material, etc.

Oh and the crazy plant on the table, I'm re-potting that into another planter and putting something else there soon.

Two ideas for you in addition to using a tablecloth:

Use images you love and decoupage them to the top of the table, giving you a table top that you don't have to cover if you don't want to.

Faux paint the table top to look like marble and cover it with a waterproof top coat.

I was thinking about doing a glass tile on the top and might at some point but for now, I need something that will look good.

How about buying a peice of glass...either clear or smoked to cover or inset into the table....No cloth needed and the glass will give it a shine when the sun hits it. Can you tell I love glass top tables?

OK, this is just what I'd do - take a sample of the striped chair upholstery and buy several tablecloths that match. You could use either round or square with that table and in that size won't have to pay much. I have lots of different colored wash and wear tablecloths and buy them inexpensively on sale at discount stores. I do have some better ones but the colored ones are fun to change out frequently and don't need ironing like the better ones!

I like your bistro table and chairs and your style and color scheme will benefit from some bright tablecloths. It's a fun room!

Glass could be done, I don't have any other glass top tables, all of them are wood.

I'm just trying to find something that will work with the stripes that is easy for the time but I really appreciate your idea!

I love tablecloths! I would get two or three in solid colors and switch them out. Your nook is lovely!

You really created a FRESH light space! Love your colors and the new table set. Glass top and one or two color cloth sound good. (second color can be a band around the edge or square in the center (or circle depending on what you find)

I would get a piece of material like you used on the chairs, cut it to fit the top of the table and then cover it with a glass top.

Your room looks very cherry and welcoming, Swede! Since I dearly love tablecloths I would recommend you get at least one that goes well with the dishes you will be most frequently using.

Glass tops are a good idea but if budget is a real concern, that is not the way to go now.

Another thing about a tablecloth for a round table. . . and this is just a pet peeve of mine, I don't like to see stripes going off at an angle (if you know what I mean) but other than that. . . a print, a solid whatever you find inexpensively and that goes with your scheme will be fine. I would also recommend cotton as poly or poly blends will be hard to remove stains from.

I get tablecloths very inexpensively. . . last one from yard sale for $2. Good luck with your search. You have done a good job with this nook.

Looking at your pic again, I think darker tones to go with the shade and the seats would be a good choice.

I love tablecloths as well which is one of the reasons I didn't do anything to the table top initially.

I am going to look for a vintage one, a cotton blend maybe, something not too light as you said.
