Hello anyone and everyone

We just moved into a new house and I'm struggling with decorating some rooms. Please give me any ideas.

1. TV room: The walls are all face brick. The couches are beige so the room is looking a little too brown at the moment. I've thrown in some apple green and white cushions to brighten it up but what kind of coffee table and tv stand should I buy? Light wooden colours? dark colours? white? I don't want the room to look so brown and dull.

2. Main bedroom: I fell in love with a white and grey wide striped duvet cover and I bought different colours of pillow cases so I could change the colours of the additional pillows. I also bought a painting which is basically trees in autum - a lot of orange, red, grey and blue. Now I don't know what kind of curtains to put in - will white be fine or can I try something else. Any suggestions?

First I would make the room work, meaning all shelving, storage, and purpose for each room is established and set where you want them. The right amount of seating for purpose of the room. Even if you do not own all the pieces yet at least plan a location for them. Once the purpose of your home is set, then you can make pretty.

When you have that layer thought out, think of your textures and colors.
Since you have one room with brick, that texture will set in motion the need to place other textures in a few other places in your home. And if the brick is an actual brick color, will it remain that color? You can add texture by moldings or board and batten wainscoting, or beadboard, or whatever your style will be in your home and what relates tot he style of the actual house. Exterior style should match interior (permanent applications) of the house.

Think of your trim work, if your ceilings and walls will all be darker, then white trim might not be a good choice. If your trim will all be white, then use that white in your accessories or color combinations to make the trim look less disjointed.

where you pick your main color and then search for color combinations for that color.
Plan to use or showcase one color per room that all coordinates in the house. So, for example: if you use the brick color (keep the existing color of the brick) then use that color as an accent in other rooms, even as sheets or pillow cases in a guest room or a set of towels in guest bath (can be mixed with sets of other colors such as gray, white or blue, or greens).
Use the accent colors in small amount in one room and moreso in another room.

Now with all that being said, coordinating drapery, sheets, upholstery will at least have a direction.

Then for texture or pattern:
Do a google search for patterns such as striped fabrics or modern patterns this way you will get a visual for what kinds of patterns you like. Some like Chevron, Ikat, stripes, dots, floral, Damask, etc. This will help the texture in the house as well as color.

First room ideas:
1. Paint a craigslist / thrift store coffee table apple green - a shade deeper than your pillows. Get a bright throw.
Find a third shade to use as accent - if you have lots of texture, earth tones, apple green and (white trim sounds great) then go looking for a print fabric you love that combines these tones and adds one more shade. Add one or two bright pops of ceramic orange and cover an ottoman /or make a slipcover for a chair out of this fun fabric and voila - your room seems deliberate. Now, this is just one example. You might like the turquoise and kiwi combinations better - begin looking at prints until you find a combo of two that you think will complement each other and you like the tones in them - they can be your jumping off point.

The point isn't to use what I found, but to use the method to find a print fabric that you love that already combines the apple green and use it as color inspiration. There is a 70, 30, 10 balance I've heard to try - earth tones in your room would be 70%, kiwi green could be 30% and orange accents 10%. Then look for art that complements. Maybe stock white drapery with an orange ribbon trim you add yourself.

Second room ideas:
Gray and white duvet is in the cool family of colors and your art sounds warm. Maybe this art will do better in another room - here painting the walls will do wonders for you. Soft gray blues can range from a periwinkle undertone (what sounds great with your bedding) or head turquoise. Indigo is so easy to use with periwinkle and is everywhere in accents this year - easy to combine and classic. I'd head navy/cobalt/indigo accents, periwinkle toned walls and then you are building with classic colors than can be reworked later.
