For years I've done the same Holiday decor, heavy on the red. I still like it, but it's beginning to get a little same old same old. So I began pinning Christmas inspiration pics on pinterest, and lo and behold, everything I was gravitating toward was neutral creams, whites, natural items, mercury glass, and lot of greenery. I decided my new black open shelving in the kitchen would be my test area to see how it would look in our home.

It's a cheapo garland wrapped with white lights, and then I cut up an old wreath that was the longer white pine boughs and stuck those in.

I added in some frosted picks that look like "ice" branches and then some white glittery snowflakes picks.

I bought this mercury glass looking container (which looks like a beautiful glorified paint bucket) on Black Friday for $7. Added mixed greens and pine cones and the corner is really pretty.

Below, I just took some little wreaths and stuck them in a basket and added my vintage looking tree topper...(poor one winged snowman)and a silver ornament for some shine.

I bought a little silver pedestal candy dish on vacation, and my old plastic cloche fit perfectly. Added 3 little bottle brush trees and a Dollar Tree tea light to illuminate them up high. You can see the icy branches better in that shot.

Really love my snowman picture. I found some hot cocoa mix in a vintage looking container that I really think is cute to set out during the holidays. Every year I just refill it with fresh cocoa mix.

Finally I found a home for the vintage looking Santa ornament. It was always too big for the tree. Put in my little Christmas boxes and it makes for a vintage inspired vignette.

This type of neutral vintage inspired decorating looks really nice with my ironstone pieces. It allows the dark charcoal background of my old time snowman plates to really show up. I found 2 beautiful large Christmas ornaments at TJ Maxx today that look like vintage mercury glass. Love that sparkle.

Very nice IM. I have to change up my livingroom tree every year because I get tired of doing the same one. I love white and silver.

Lovely, lmccrore! I especially like that you decorate beautifully on a budget. Almost anyone can do it by maxing out their Visa but it takes talent to know how to do it frugally.

FYI - I have been doing white, silver and clear glass (ice) along with mercury glass for a few years! Very fesh looking - love the sparkle.
Since I love in the frozen north.........it's quite appropriate! BTW, your decor looks stunning! Good job! Smile

Thanks everyone...it seems like whenever I finish up a project, my husband always asks, "What do your friends online think of it?" and it really is means a lot getting feedback from folks who are passionate and love decorating as much as I do. I think that Pinterest is such an amazing tool because it's easy to see what you're drawn to as you go thru your boards. I've always been about color at Christmas, (especially my red!) but this quieter more natural palette incorporates my daily style with holiday sparkle. I was happily surprised at how many little ornaments and holiday pieces I've picked up over the years that really weren't special and were pretty much lost in my sea of Christmas color really stole the show when they were grouped together. Thanks again for your lovely comments...they really mean a lot to me.

It looks great, especially against the black shelves.

I love Pinterest too because of the thousands of great ideas. Except I'm driving DH crazy with my "let's do this" Smile

Kudos to you...

Next year I'm going with a burnished gold tree (buying a thrift store one to spray paint) and I'll decorate it w/cream 'poinsettias' and other metallic colors of ornaments, etc.

Have to wait as we are in a tiny rental while house is being built. It's be fun!!!
