I couldn't reach my regular upholsterer after several tries so I give the other upholstery place close by a chance to impress me with their work and the DR chair bottoms are back. While I'm not extremely impressed with their welting abilities, they did a great job with replacing the foam and sculpting it to the profile of the chair, so I won't complain. Sure looks a lot nicer than the flat cushioned, worn out gold velvet they replaced!

Here's the set before reupholstering. (Gotta have a point of reference ya know.)

The finished chairs. It's interesting to note the difference in the two sets of seats. The gold moved the gold from the painting frames from one side of the room to the other. While I liked that effect, I wanted something other than gold of the seats. The new fabric is a more subtle result. I like it, too.

The jury was and may still be out on the combination of the DR rug that is heavy in purple and pastels. Up close, the combination seems to have problems, but when viewing the room from other rooms, the similarity in colors and the clarity of pattern fades and the combination isn't disturbing at all.

The only problem I'm really having is that I want to redo the painted chairs. I did some of them at the same time, a few at a slightly later date, and the arm chairs several years later. The paint mix ratios were different so a few of them are obviously different. I'd like to improve on that.

Overall, I think the finished chairs look great!

They look great! It's funny how some fabrics look completely different from a normal viewing angle than they do if you look at them up close. The eye tends to blur some colors together in certain patterns and lighting and fabric sheen can affect the way colors appear in a room.

Love it. The rug was one of the things I noticed and I love it, too. The sum is greater than the parts.

Hi Christie. The new covers look great! But was there some reason that you had to go with welting? Are these cushions or upholstered seats?

If you are not happy with the welting do you think it could be because the upholsterer did not cut the welting fabric on the bias?

They look pretty with the new fabric. Nice re-do. Have fun if you decide to paint them.

Very nice Christie! The upholstery fabric really suits the style of the chairs.
