Here is my kitchen...
eta: ignore the corner microwave. It is temporary as our other one bit the dust and we have not replaced it yet. This message has been edited. Last edited by: melk, |

Oh, I guess I'd better be more specific...
I am looking for a new fixture over the table AS WELL as one to fill the hole in my ceiling above the work area (you can see the wires hanging down in the ABOVE picture) where we removed a long, ugly, flourescent. Also looking for a coordinating one above the sink...possibly a pendant? The fridge and pantry are to the right out of view. Here is the kitchen looking into the adjoining FR...excuse the clutter, I've got 3 small kids. This message has been edited. Last edited by: melk, |

While I'm at it, I'll post a few others I have considered, but the first one's price is what makes me want to move fast.

Melk, I saw that ad in our Home Depot circular in the paper...I think it's a great price! You might try googling to see what the regular price is...sometimes they run specials like that to get ppl in the store...my husband got us a new kitchen faucet that's usually $120 for $50 during one of those specials.

Oh, and btw, I was very pleased with the fixtures I got from Overstock; also Ebay. I got a $354 light for $51 from overstock, and a $251 light (brand new!) from an Ebay Store for $38, including shipping!

I like all the light you posted. I think you may just have to buy and see what will work and return what doesn't look right. Post pics and we'll give our opinions, lol!
That's a great price on that first light though. Go check it out! If you go to HD tomorrow take the kiddos and they can do the kids project. It's the first Saturday of the month. |

I have deleted the very first post that I made with a chandy I definitely DO NOT want. Sorry if that makes this thread hard to follow...
Sounds like you have gotten some great deals, Peri. So do you think I am going in the right direction as far as style? Does anyone like one fixture over the other or have a way to make the "hole" in the work area work w/ over the table? This message has been edited. Last edited by: melk, |

Melk, I'm not at all nuts about the light in the ad. For my preferences, I like the JP penny lights MUCH better. And in the "family" - I like the 1st family over the 2nd one.
So, lets see. I think you need a nice chandy over the table = I like the 1st JCP one the best. I also like the 1st "family" chandy - the 3 light one, and the pendant that goes with it over the sink would be really nice. As far as the "work space' by the range - I'd NOT put an chandy there - I think it would look odd. What I would do is put a track light in. They have some very stealth looking tracks at the HD or Lowes to choose from and with 2-3 lights - you can focus the light on your work space along that whole wall and give yourself some much needed task lighting. You could go as cool and "funky" as you like - or very stealth - so that they sort of disappear and not compete with your chandy over the table and pendant over the sink. They're "work" lilghts and don't need to call attn to themselves. |

I think it really depends on what style you want to go for. The first that you posted seems very country to me. I love it, but I love country. My favorites are the 2 from JC Penny though. Those are beautiful!

I like the JCP ones too. Be sure to check the sizes though.

Good point by goldenlover...what size do you need? (diamter, I mean.) I was looking around tonight & was thinking about your lights...will let you know if I see any good bargains!

I like the second one fron JC... a little simplier lines...
Clutter excused... we all know or remember what that's like... I know I told you this before but I really like the chairs you bought.... Becky |

Melissa M, I, too wondered if a chandy would look funny and had looked for tracks, but hadn't seen anything I like. I did buy one that didn't work out. It was an ORB, but hung down a few inches. The 4 lights were so bright and it was just too small for the area. I had seen somewhere where they used one of the large pendants (3 lights) and it looked okay. Wish I had a picture. So I am still not sure.
I think I am leaning towards the JCP lights too. I don't want to settle just because of price. And the JCP ones are not all that expensive. But I was trying to find a collection so it would be easy to find all the pieces I need that coordinated. I also plan on undercabinet lighting. That would help with task lighting. IF ANYONE HAS A PICTURE OF TRACK LIGHTING THAT THEY THINK WOULD WORK IN MY KITCHEN, PLEASE POST!!! I have a hard time finding anything that I like. Becky42, thank you for excusing my clutter. Normally it is 100X worse than those pics!!! And thank you for the chair compliment. I think I had told you they were from JCP probably about 2 yrs ago. I do plan on painting them and the table as they are not quite the same white. The chairs are creamy. But I havn't gotten that far in my decorating. Not even sure what color to paint them. Thank you all for your honest opinions. Keep them coming. I am bound to determine to find something before this century is over!! |

Oh, as far as size... I am not really sure. It is a huge room considering it is the kitchen and FR with no real break. Table is 3x5. Dining area is about 10x12. The light fixture will also be the first thing you see when you walk in the front door. It is a straight view through to the back, including kitchen table. Here's a picture.
This picture is taken standing to the left of the front door. The door is a straight shot through the house... And Michele105, I am going for a country but updated style. |

Ok .. I want to change my vote... with the view you have.. I wouldn't do anything to take away from it... but it may take some doing to find the right light to go with your decor...
My brother has the cable system with steel lights in his dining room.. but it's a little more modern.. and his kitchen has the s track with lights on it.. I have a feeling your perfect light will not be found at the box stores...we're all going to need a road trip.. even if it's just on the web... PS.. my girls are 10 months apart.. I think we had clutter until they went off to school... it just morphed with each stage in their lives... This message has been edited. Last edited by: Becky42, |

Becky42, how did you do it with 2 tht close! My first 2 are 15 months apart and I thought that was hard. It's nice now that they are 3 & 4...best friends usually. My little guy is 9 months.
And hey, I'm up for a road trip!!! Do you have something in mind that you think would look great. Am I going in the wrong direction? |

I don't want to be accused of leading you down the wrong path.. but I think you've got a beautiful view & should really play that up...
We'll have to brainstorm this... Our younger years weren't bad at all ... DH was in the fire department at the time.. so he was actually gone a lot ... so I could focus on kids schedules rather than adult schedules... |

I wonder if PeriParker could put those light fixtures in that last picture. (Peri... I realize we're going to have to start paying you a salary soon... lol). But that would be helpful to be able to see them hanging.

You have such a beautiful home already!! IMO, track lights would detract from your style. There are so many options out there that I am sure you will eventually find something just perfect !

I don't like the nutmeg finish on the ones in the first flyer pic. I think you should go with a darker metal to match your cabinet hardware (which I love by the way). I like your over the sink choice. I really like the old school type lights like that. Now, you could get the nutmeg one because it's a good deal and then spray it with hammered metal spray paint. We did that with a tacky brass one and I like the way it looks better than the actual wrought iron one! I like the avalon series lights...
