Our fireplace looks totally outdated and we're thinking about adding a stack stone veneer. Has anyone done this and if so, how did it turn out?

Clay, have you posed this question on the remodeling board? A quick search proved futile re. the how-to tho many sites illustrate before and afters re. this particular project. Contacting the companies that sell the veneer product may turn up more DIY info..

I'm wanting to do the same thing to an outdated red brick planter I have by my front door. Please let me know if you find something on another board. I will follow this one.

What is your fireplace made of that makes it look dated? I ask that because we have been using stacked stone on fireplaces for years and frankly, I think it is beginning to look dated.

I just saw this fireplace tutorial yesterday. It may or may not be what you are thinking about but it caught my eye.
