I didn't get an answer to my email from the HGTV admins on not being able to see pics, so I'm here even less now. It's so frustrating to see the posts with people commenting on the pics, and nothing showing on my screen. Some one tell me if no pics show below?!

I bought this Eastlake walnut chair at a yard sale last summer for $10. Sammy is checking it out.



I stripped it down to the frame this past weekend. It was filled with straw and cotton.




I also stripped off the dark old finish and revealed the pretty natural walnut, which I gave a coat of tung oil. I chose a small piece of fabric that I had left from making a pillow. It's P Kaufmann's 'Best in Show'.

BDM, yes your pictures are showing. Such a bummer they can't fix your picture problem. Don't leave us though, we would miss all your projects.

I am so happy you had enough fabric! BEAUTIFUL! I love the trim and tacks too! Incredible work! The straight lines in the books and shelves really work well with the straight lines on the chair. The dogs are precious!

We went by a pet shop with a pen out side and DH and I caught sight of a pair of Huskies. OH my we are in trouble! Will take all the self control we have not to go back.

As a suggestion on viewing pictures, try using another browser. I use Firefox as a rule, but for some reason, I can't view videos in it, so I switch over to Chrome or IE for that. It's a hassle, but less frustrating than not being able to view them at all.

Well, this is a shock, but I can see these pics, which I loaded here by copying the HTML code from my Photobucket album.

I do want to see things like MMF and Tammy Loves Roses work on her house, but those are not visible. I wish the admins would answer my email, but they may be as baffled as I am.

NO, your avatar is not huge, almost normal size (small and in the upper left hand corner, and your text starts where everyone elses text starts.
What a BUMMER! I hope that gets fixed SOON!

Grapefruit, I forgot to say that I didn't quite do it in a weekend. Stripping out the 'innards' and old springs etc took 3 hours on Saturday. Hundreds of tiny old tacks. Then I knew if I wanted to be happy with it when it was done, I'd need to take off the yucky old finish. Another MESSY 3 hours on Sunday, but out in the yard.

I started the re-do Monday after work and continued to spend time on it Tuesday and Wed, late afternoon and evenings. When I start a project, I get a bit obsessed with it, as I love to see the difference between old and new. I was THIS close on having enough of that fabric.....

MR, I had 2 huskies in my doggie past, but one at a time. Bear was a big sweetheart, and he didn't mind at all scrunching down in the back of my Toyota Celica. If we tried to cook a nice steak, we'd put him in another room, and he'd do the Husky Howl! Bandit was smaller, skinny and it was due to him having pancreatitis, and his former owners not feeding him very much as they 'wanted to keep him small'!! They also threw him in a pool as a pup, and as a result, he was deathly afraid of the sound of water, such as the fountains in the Maine Mall. When I'd give him a treat, he'd take it to a corner, and 'dig' in the carpet to 'bury' it, and then put it there and nose it as if he was covering it with dirt. It was SO sad!

when we finally get a dog, or two we will adopt, there are so many homeless dogs. I am so familiar with that Husky 'howl'! They HATE water anyway! When we gave Kiska and Grizz Bear a bath, we had to warn the neighbors because they thought we were torturing them! They cried like cats do! Kiska always buried her treats! And sometimes put some under my pillow in my bedroom! She did that after I fell, and was so sick, DH said 'she was looking out for me'! lol

I KNEW the chair looked so much better and it was also because you cleaned up the finish! BRAVO to you! LOVE IT!

if you can see pics. If so, you could just use the new ID until they get things worked out. My avi is still too big.

Hi, annie, I did change my name from Brittany Dog Mom to 'Brittany Dog Mom to 3' and it made no difference. I'm bummed. But thank you all for liking my chair!

I had so much fun with that one that I just brought a companion for it from Craigslist, after offering the very nice seller 1/2 of his asking price. If it's not too hot this weekend, I'll be starting this one!

My daughter says to me now 'I don't NEED any more chairs'! After getting excited about chairs and passing some on to her! LOL

My mother enjoyed the trip to get the chair with me, as it was a beautiful ride. She asked, 'What are you going to do with another chair?' I told her that this is entertainment for me. I don't smoke or drink, I wait for movies to come out on DVDs, etc, so what some people might spend on a few packages of cigarettes, I spent on this and it will keep me happy for days, and then I'll enjoy it forever! I hope....

I was able to pull out each original hammered nail head, and although many are bent, as they went in crooked, I hope I can re-use them.

Your Chair came out Beautiflly. Have fun with your new re-do project. Can't wait to see pics.

You chair is wonderful. I too wondered what you do with all of your remakes. I don't do extensive work like you but do enjoy reglueing, sanding and painting. But then most of the time have to get rid of them because there just is no room for it in my house. I regret that part of it. I'm still working on getting up the courage to try upholstering. We'll see.

Your story of your dog burying his treats reminded me of my one dog (as an adult) I had for 17 years. He would "bury" it in the carpet, pat it several times with his nose, then back off and lay down and watch it. He would perk right up if the cat even wandered into the room. He was a labradoodle. I didn't even know I had a designer dog until after he was gone!

I know you have it already figured out (I am sure!) but are you going to make this chair for the same room and color way?

I agree, these low cost projects are also my 'entertainment'! Well so is my DH (entertainment), but we are not going there! LOL I meant we do projects together and I like that, we used to work together before we started dating so it brings us back to the roots of our friendship. He was not that interested when I first started doing projects with the house and furniture, but now he takes an interest and helps with the heavy lifting for me and the hard parts with machine tools. I can use lightweight tools, but he does most to conserve my arms for the fun stuff. Lucky me, or I would have to give up this hobby I LOVE as you do!

Marty Ruth, THAT is the million dollar question - what fabric to use? I have a bunch of them to choose from, to say the least.

Those colors tend to be 'me'. I love fallish colors and since I have them almost everywhere, I find I can move just about anything from one to to another and it will go.

When the man who sold me the chair last night saw the 'dog chair' (I had it in my car to show Mum) he said, 'OMG, I want my chair back now, if it can be made to look like this!' The colors just work beautifully with the frame. I hope I can find something that will look as nice.

Haven't you noticed that Riley's picture ALSO matches your fabric? lol

What are you going to use the chair for? Desk? Because you can go with a more faded green (the stool color that the dog sits on on the seat of the chair you just did...) breathing after such a long description! lol

If that is too chrismasy, then how about the blue?, I dare not suggest tan... out of the carpet. how about a gray out of that dog print? Perhaps a ticking? I love ticking, the gray and rose colors are wonderful. You can tea stain it if the background is too white. Then would match the old books in the other chair fabric!

Such a great vision for the chair re-do. I was just wondering what prior owners would think if they could see the re-do. It is better for us if they don't have that "vision". More projects left for you.

Good Luck on the next one too. Do you find you learn something new each time you take one apart?

BR, I only know where they live, but not their names, and they are a few miles away from my mother. I'm tempted to leave it in the car and swing by their house, and if they are out in the yard, show them the little gem I bought from them last summer!

I just had to go buy more foam for the seat of the one I got last night. Since the lady who runs that shop was so interested in hearing about the Drexel chair I did before this one, I took this one in to show her. She loved it and sat in it while we talked! She just loved the color of the wood with the fabric, and the condition of the chair frame, which she examined in detail.

Yes, I do learn something each time I do one. The materials in this one include horsehair, and HEAVY wire 'holders' for the large springs, where the 'dog' one didn't. I was also surprised as I pulled off the gold upholstery fabric on this one, that the same dark brown fabric that was on the outside of the dog chair, in the first pic above, was under it. That tells me that someone may have started to re-do the dog chair, but stopped soon after starting.

This current one is made entirely different on the inside than the other one! This one is built like a tanker, and I am having a heck of a time getting all the 'stuff' out and off it.

MR, you are going to be surprised...Have you ever heard me utter the word 'neutral'? It's not usually in my lexicon, but I have the below fabric in my stash, after buying a few yards on eBay a couple of years ago.

I held it up against the chair, and I like it! I liked it even better when I Googled the name in the selvage, Lee Behren Silks 'Katmandu', and saw that the retail/list price is $129 a yard. This is not a silk, but a good weight linen. Might as well use something nice that is already here, and has far less color than what I usually do, to change things up a bit. I don't know where this one will go!

WOW! I am so envious of your STASH! That is why I was mentioning having the ticking or the fabrics on that site had one that was similar and in Indigo (faded dark blue).
This chair is going to top the other one I think because it will be heftier and then the fabric is so classy!

I am just so IMPRESSED with your talents and your taste in fabric! Can't wait to see the chair!

It finally stopped raining here so I can get back to working on my daughter's table (sanding it outside). And then I can get to my chairs! You have me foaming at the bit to get going on them!

Paula, I have to laugh. So far, this is the only upholstered chair in the house that the dogs haven't sat in. They like them more 'cushy'. I do have an upholstered footstool in here that Sam sits on, with his front feet on the floor. It's the perfect height for him, and I smile when I see him park his little butt on that instead of sitting on the floor!

BDM, that turned out absolutely adorable! The cleaning made a big difference too. Don't ya just love tung oil? Sammy is too cute! The fur family always has to check things out and give their approval don't they? Can't wait to see the next project.

Christie, I am so happy to 'see' you here! The second chair is underway, but I have to go out and mow the lawn. Removing the dark old finish wasn't fun, but I had to do it or I would not have been happy with the result. I only have this little bit done so far, but am using the original hammered brass tacks and have to straighten most of them before re-using. But they are a lot stronger than the ones made now!
