awww, this is my favorite monday morning thread...nothing?

I got a pair of Spoon back slipper type chairs on Craigslist for $30 for the pair. The wood is not worth stripping (factory finish paint), they were made in Spain and are light weight. I have picked a fabulous Ikat fabric thanks to BrittanyDogMom3 and her great vision with fabrics and chairs. Edited to add: this is the CL photoThis message has been edited. Those are neat and will look fabulous when done and can't believe the price!
|
The frames will be painted to match the fabric gray, and the Ikat fabric for the cushions. The fabric is out of stock until August, so I am waiting for it. I did a mock up in Adobe Photoshop Elements to see how the chair will look. I am not painting until the fabric arrives so I can match or at least complement the color. Annie Sloan chalk paint seems like the direction I will go in. Color Graphite (also BDM suggestion)This message has been edited. INSPIRATIONAL CHAIR: photo shows a spoon back chair with a back cushion and that is what I am going to do with mine, more comfy and soft for my back. Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/

Oh, I am so not a Christmas in July kind of girl....but never say never I guess. Ha ha Anyway, I have an open hutch in my kitchen eating area that I usually keep some green cabbage dishes on. For the last 5 years or so I have been hunting around thrift shops collecting up old Santa mugs, finding just one at a time, to hang on the hutch at Christmas. I like the red against the green dishes, and the combination is cheery and happy looking to me. For some reason the mugs are very hard to find in my area, and as I said it took me several years to find enough to hang one row of mugs, which I was finally able to do last year. This is a really bad photo of what I did last year.
|
But in this photo you can see that I need another row of mugs. (Such a bad photo - sorry)This message has been edited. Last edited by: cocok,

So last week I stopped at a thrift shop to look around, and I stumbled across EIGHT Santa mugs!! EIGHT at once. That basically doubles my collection! I couldn't believe it! If I knew how to do a back flip I would have done one! Can't wait to hang these on the second row next December! (OH, and P.S. they were only 99 cents each.. Double imaginary back flip!)This message has been edited. Last edited by: cocok,

And also-Mary Ruth, I love what you are thinking of for those chairs! Dyna.mite!
|
COCOK--I just sold a whole dozen of those at my garage sale last year..Used to put them on a lirrle fake tree in a corner of dining room, but don't decorate that much any more so got rid of them. yours look like they are in great shape,,mine had some paint off on a few of them..Anyhow, the 2 rows will look great. love your idea of displaying them
|
A dozen! My gosh, homebody4, why wasn't I at your garage sale????? Maybe it is a good thing. I probably would have had a coronary over 12 Santa mugs at once. (and I love the ones with paint off, makes me think they have been much loved)This message has been edited. Last edited by: cocok,

Mary Ruth - Your chairs are going to look amazing. I love the fabric and the colors. Cocok - Clever idea as a way to decorate an existing display for the holidays. I've always loved those Santa mugs. I have mine from when I was a child. He is very well-loved and doesn't have much of a face left at all. Unlike Cocok, I'm a huge fan of Christmas in July and am looking forward to this weekend's offerings on QVC to spark my creativity. I've already been thinking about possible table settings and menus for the dinners I host every year. I think my decor will feature natural elements...pine cones, greenery and berries. I bought five of these huge pine cones to use somehow, either in a center piece or maybe as a focal point on the fireplace.

MS. SKYLER... you are still doing the post!!. I have missed it and everybody.
|
Skinnybelink, thanks Mary Ruth, can't wait to see the makeover on the chairs. Please share the before and afters.
|
nothing from me - but in this heat, i do well to survive!! LOL!!! ~~~becca~~~~

I sold my electric fireplace in the bedroom last week and purchased two of these new half moon tables ($50.00 ea) I also picked up two vintage mirrors ($7.00 ea)at sally ann. I will be changing them up. These will be added to each side of our bed. Now, I'm on the hunt for some lamps and still have to make my headboard. Once everything is in its place, I will decide whether to paint the furniture or not. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg**** ![]()

Forgot to add. MR, love the shape of those chairs and they will look awesome with that fabric on them. Can't wait to see them. Cocok, I see lots of those santa cups at the second hand stores around Christmas time. I have the same green dishes as you have. Gracie, do you have a chandelier? they would look nice hanging from a light fixture. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

cocok, Thanks so much! I am getting excited, if the fabric was not out of stock I would be working on them right now! Patience... I can't believe you got 8 more mugs! Does this complete your needs? How FUN when you come across something you were looking for! I also like the santa mugs against the green plates, those two colors together are very festive. I have a soft spot for those santa mugs too. Graciepj, Thanks! I am so excited about doing them. I am just so happy to be doing projects again! I love those huge pinecones! We have some that fall off the trees around here, real large! They add a wonderful texture no matter where you use them! 88 Rockdale, hello and how fun to check in on Skyler's MMF's! out on a limb, I hope you get COOL soon! VG we were posting at the same time! OH you are thinking nightstands! I am going to check out two tomorrow on CL (dressers with drawers), we are on the same wave length! GREAT deals on those! AND you are making a headboard! I like that you found two mirrors alike! AND for only $7 each! You and I are the same, in that I like to put things in their place, make sure the scale and look are what I want, then the finish goes on. I am glad you like the chairs, I just couldn't walk away from those, they will go in the guest bedroom eventually. Cool chairs MR! Of course almost all of my "finds" breathe and this week's no different. This is what we literally found in the lumber yard on Saturday. He's maybe a week old and has the lungs of an opera singer. He gets bottle fed every couple of hours. Christie
|
We found this today. He's clearly from a different litter maybe two weeks older than the first. The first one is resting quietly now that he has a companion to cuddle up with. Christie
|
The second find of the day is the white ones sister. She's been a little mauled by the stray puppies that we suspect are bringing them to where they hang out behind the pallets of shingles. She has a few puncture wounds so I'm pretty concerned about her. She's clean and resting now. Hopefully, she has no internal issues. Keeping my fingers crossed. Christie

Wow, Victorian Girl, you are finding some terrific bargains for your bedroom re-do. Christie, you are a one-woman rescue squad. Good thing you have lots of acreage for the cats to roam once they get old enough to fend for themselves. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Graciepj,

MR, cool chairs. I wouldn't have the patience to wait for fabric, I'd be out shopping for something I could use right away. Kudos to you on your patience. Coco, I have several of those mugs and see quite a few in the TS's around here. Glad you found a set to finish your hutch! VG, love those half moon tables and great $ on the mirrors. B, too cute!! I hope the last one recovers. I found this large snail sculpture to use in my garden marked down from $129 to $20!! Score! I also found a large clock to use out on my patio. Will have to post that in a different response. TTFN, CandyThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Christmas Candy,

This clock is about 28" in diameter and was at GdWl for $9.75 with senior discount. I love to sit out on the patio and read when I can sneak in a few moments between working and golfing, LOL. Now, I know when it is "time" to stop lounging and get dinner ready. TTFN, Candy

Bella, Amazing little kitties! You will never run short of companions! Christmas Candy, I like that sculpture! That is a nice large clock! Keeping you on schedule now! I only have patience for the fabric because I have other things to keep me occupied! What a great week of finds! Mary Ruth, I love the chairs and fabric. I look forward to seeing your reveal photo! Cocok, Ahhh the memories! DTwin and I had Santa mugs like yours. One mug had the open eyes, the other had a wink. DTwin and I both preferred the winking Santa, so we had to take turns. Graciejp, great pine cones! Of course I love your ideas for Decorating with natural elements. VG, wow! Love the tables and mirrors. And the prices! Oh, Bella, what precious little finds you have! Adorable heart stealers, they are. CC, nice clock. Really nice! However, the snail is awesome! Maine Lady

Wow, so nice to see the thread so active with so many members sharing. Love all the terrific treasures and some creative ideas too. Yep, Rockdale, I'm STILL hanging around doing Monday Morning finds Bella, bless you for taking in these little ones. They're so small and helpless they would be lost without you. My dream is to one day open a cat sanctuary and take in these needy kitties....one day.
|
great finds... bella...you have a great heart...

A favorite thread with everyone's finds this week. It's fun to see the found treasures and the planned remakes. Bella, Those little ones are just the cutest. Hope they are doing well. Looks like they made a great find of a new home. ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives
|
MR, I knew the scale would be perfect with these tables and mirrors. Now, to make them look good. Our bedroom isn't that big so I'm trying to scale some things down. My bedroom always looks cluttered and I don't like that. Christie, those little fluff balls are so cute. I love kittens but I'm not a cat gal, I'm a dog gal. Thank you for saving them, from one animal lover to another. Gracie, I'm getting there. Christmas candy, thanks. Wow, what a score on the snail. He looks happy in his new home. ML, thanks. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

Christmas Candy, I love the snail! I've been thinking about your great TS finds lately as I try to figure out my table settings for the holidays.

The weekend is here, you know that that means? Monday is only a couple of days away for the new MMF's post! Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/

Oh my Bella - where are all these little balls of fur coming from? You have that cutie stray Chi as well, don't you? I hope the little kittens pull thru - no sign of mom?

JC-we're finding the babies at work in one of the lumber sheds out back. There are a couple of puppies that we believe are getting them from somewhere and bringing them to their place behind the pallets of shingles. The little white one is Allister and both his eyes are wide open now. The orange one is Pierce (due to the ear-piercing racket he makes that can be heard into the next county.) Little Alita didn't make it. She'd been punctured in a couple of places and I suspect she had a collapse lung and maybe a kidney. I put her on my chest to sleep the first night to try to keep her warm and that's where she passed, so at least she wasn't abandoned and alone. The other two are doing great and have become two of the biggest pigs I've ever seen. Pierce sometimes eats canned or soaked hard food if he feels in the mood. He used the litter box one day. Wish I could get him to make a habit of it. Yes, little Milo is here too. When he showed up he was clean, healthy, and wearing a collar-no tag. One of these times I need to take him in to the vet and see if he's chipped. Given his appearance and behavior, I'd say he was someone's shmoozin' little lap dog. How he ended up here remains a mystery. Neighbors haven't clue either. I imagine we'll be adding to the collection this afternoon. One of Donnie's cousins or something is having a baby and need a home for their house cat. I never understood about babies and cats. We always had them and we had one when my son was a baby. There was never any trouble with cats and babies. None of us are allergic to them either. Wonder if you're exposed to them as babies it created an immunity to cat allergies? I'm sure someone has done studies... Anyway, there will be another 4 legged Monday morning find for this week. Christie

Bella, the myth (and perhaps more true than false) is that a cat climbs into the crib with the baby (where as a puppy can't do that) and old tales tell of a cat lying down near the baby's face and sometimes on it, and the very small newborn is suffocated. Now, If I were a brand new mom, the cat would GO, better safe than sorry. Depends on the household and the mom, and she makes all the decisions for what is best. Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/

I've heard that myth too. I suspect the attraction is that the baby smells like milk and that's why the cat goes towards the head. As a cat lover, I would be more likely to simply keep the cat away from the baby and make sure it had it's own yummy food to keep it occupied. We let our cat near Brandon, but not while he was sleeping. Of course I'm a nutbag when it comes to my cats as they aren't just nice to have around, but are also my unconditional companions. They're going to bring her to us and should be showing up any time. Hope she's happy here. Christie

Well, we had a baby and a cat and the cat did that! Got in our daughter's crib. Did we get rid of the cat -- no! Did we get rid of our daughter -- no!!! In fact, the cat got in the crib to have her babies. I think she thought that since OUR baby was in the crib that her babies belonged there as well!!! We moved them, of course. I also think that whenever you "withhold" something (i.e. no pets, no peanut butter) there are no antibodies built up and so allergies are worse. (and that is true about peanut allergies -- there are more now because children aren't exposed until they're 5 or so and they've no antibodies so -- guess what (that was from research that our DD was sent because she's in the food business) . . . Well good for you for caring. Especially knowing that it is likely that the little things might not make it. It's not easy to be that caregiver. Wish more people were like you!
