I have posted a few times sharing the progress of a second house we own on our property we own, and are finally renovating to rent it out! It has sat for over 8 years unused and just looking like garbage. The link below has the newest pictures, but by tomorrow, I might have completed house pics! Glad you are making progress on the cottage. The difference is amazing. You are lucky that DH is skilled to do that type of work.

Good luck on reaching your goals for the re-do & rental.

Wow, you guys have done a lot of work! I am glad that the job will be done soon! I know it takes a lot to maintain one life while working on a house on your time off.
You can breathe a sigh of relief that you will be done with that HUGE project!
And yes your DH's grand parents would be proud of their grand son and the work he did!

Thanks ladies! I can't wait to be done with this, have a bit more income, and be able to focus on my own house! Like, I might be able to clean once in a while, or take my kids to the science museum. Ahhhhh... It has been fun though. My husband has taught me a ton about carpentry. I have done a lot of the trim work myself, since I am not working this spring and he is. I used to be scared of the huge saws and nail gun, but now I'm a "pro."

The floors were cheap and easy, from the home depot. I think they look pretty good, and we know they are durable. I like that they are consistent throughout the entire house now. The bathroom is almost done. Last night was the big push. I had put in the vinyl floor with the glue and all that. I wish we had pictures of those things. I literally glued my hand to the trowel. It really, would not come off. I had to run hot water over it, and rub oil all over it to get it off. I know, bad not to wear gloves, but I'm a little impulsive, and realized it was messy, but didn't want to stop.

Anyway, can't wait to share all the finished pictures. The blog has better descriptions, but I know it's annoying to navigate a blog sometimes!

Congratulations to you and your DH for a great job! I'm sure it's been daunting at times but you persevered and got it done. I love stories about "creating a silk purse out of a sow's ear"!

Living room finished. (I wanted to paint the pine, but the girl moving in likes it...)

Entry room, which she set up with a desk and chair. It looks really lovely. I can not tell you how much time it took to add all that trim (which we did to cover up all the seams and stuff from our crazy sheetrock and ceiling extravaganza. I guess this was easier than mudding...

Finished bedroom (well, almost... Still needs light fixture installed).

Kitchen... She moved in her stuff, so I couldn't "style it" as I was dying to do...

DH replaced a weird light fixture with this one, and we had to patch the sheetrock. Again, old wood trim came in handy. The ceilings are so low in this kitchen!

Bathroom. I'll admit, she moved in and we're not quite done. Since we did every single thing ourselves (plumbing too) it took forever and there were many mishaps. (Water spraying eveyrwhere!)

Hallway with laundry closet on left, not in picture. We used old upper kitchen cabinets on wall. All the wainscoting is original to the house.
