I NEED SUGGESTIONS FOR SITES OR STORES THAT SELL CLOTHING FOR A 70 YR. OLD WOMAN. I AM ONLY 5 FT. IN HEIGHT AND A LITTLE CHUNKY AT 155 LBS. I WENT TO THE STORE TODAY AND HAD A DIFFICULT TIME PURCHASING SOME TOPS. IT'S SO FRUSTRATING. I PURCHASE MOST OF MY CLOTHES AT LAND'S END BUT OFTEN HAVE TO ORDER TWO SIZES AND RETURN ONE. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM? THANKS!
Do you live in or near a city where there are womens' wear clothing stores? I never buy clothing online as want to try things on to get the right fit. Even the correct size may not look the way I want so I won't buy anything without trying it on.
I buy my clothing everywhere from Walmart to high end stores. Clothing must be comfortable and with the look I want. I may be 70 years old but I'm not dressing down. My problem is that there are some stores that don't carry XS or smaller sizes so I shop wherever I find a likely store!

DressBarn; Talbot's; major department stores like Macy's, Nordstrom's; Kohl's, Target, JCPenney and any local woman's boutique. Do you live near Erie? Try Lerner's or Fashion Bug.
Do you have a Lane Bryant store near you? They specialize in plus size clothing in sizes 12 to 32. They also have a petite sizes for woman who are 5'4" or under.

This is what my mother did--find a brand that she liked the fit of, then order them off ebay for much, much less.
I've been disheartened with Land's End clothing because the sizes don't run true garment-to-garment. Some brands actually do stay true.
Another thing to look for is where the garment is manufactured. The best fitting clothes for me are (sadly) imported from Russia. I'm of Eastern European decent and have that build. If the genetics for a particular culture are still evident in your body shape, that might be another trick.
Many folks are such a genetic mix, and they no longer have a particular "build" of their original heritage.
I'm a little different in that regard.

Have you tried QVC or HSN? They feature many brands and once you get the fit right in a particular brand, you might be all set.
Side note...did you know that posting in CAPS is akin to shouting? Maybe that was your intention, but if not, you might want to try posting without using caps...it's easier to read, too! Just trying to be helpful....

Thank You all for your replies. I just moved to State College, Pa. With my daughter. There is a Kohl's here and I will try to make some time to check out there chunky, older lady's dept. in the next week!
I'm 60, 5'2", wear short or petite, and do not want to wear Granny clothes. Wear size 14 in slacks, usually large tops so I think I can relate.
Check and see if there is a Christopher and Banks near you. They are usually in a mall. Their clothes are reasonably priced, great sales, classic styles that can look good on 30-70 year olds. I like that they are not long and lean - tops seem to be slightly shorter styled, yet flattering.
I also have good luck with several styles at JCP - Worthington (love their dress slacks), St. Johns Bay tops and athletic wear,Liz, etc. Dillards usually has some nice classic styles in petites. Dress Barn is good also - stylish but not too "young-trendy".
I actually buy my khaki's at Old Navy. I get the Perfect Fit style and get lot of compliments and questions on where I buy them. THey also have a jean that fits me well - the Sweetheart style. I am probably the only 60 year old that shops there.
River City Girl, you mentioned LE clothing and I'm curious. I have bought many casual outfits from LE over the years but in the past, I'd say, 2 seasons have been very disappointed. I don't see the same quality of clothing from them as in the past. Do you?

GP, I have been a loyal and frequent LE shopper for more than 25 years. Ever since Sears acquired them a few years ago, I have noticed a sharp decline in the quality of their merchandise, especially women's clothing. (Men's clothing seems to be holding steady.) Materials are flimsy. I still have LE sleep shirts from 6 years ago; they have held up. Sleep shirts I bought 2 years ago did not.
Their garment sizing is frustratingly inconsistent and they cannot seem to decide who they are marketing to. Some seasons their designs are dowdy; other times they try too hard to be hip. I don't recognize them anymore.
Nor do I shop there any more. The last two times, I had to return items for refunds, which I have never done in two decades.
I have noticed they seem to be targeting younger woman with their Starfish line. I always buy their stretch capri pants for the summer and spring. They are comfortable and wash up nicely. Since I am short, there is no hemming needed and they are great for everyday wear. This year they didn't advertise them at all. I wrote them along with a lot of other customers and they finally brought them back! I believe the older customers should be their concern since we have used them for many years. Younger woman would rather shop in person, I think but us older woman appreciate shopping online with a company they have purchased from for years!
I keep thinking about your situation. I'm kind of surprised that you don't seem to be familiar with petite size clothing. It should be IDEAL for someone your size
Our Sears has a "Land End Shop" inside the store, with a petite section. I usually go there and try on the clothes. I also used to buy two sizes and return one.
Went to Kohls today and bought two winter tops in size 1X. They fit great and are not too long. I wear size medium or size 12 pants but they always have to be hemmed. I guess I have a weird shap because I wear 1x tops but size 10 or 12 petite slacks. It is nice to know other women have my same problem too!
