Can you help me finish decorating my dining room - not just for Thanksgiving, but for everyday, too? I thought I was finished with this room, but...hmmm...needs something else, I think. Sconces on either side of the art is just one thought.

I'll post some pics. I'm not overly crazy about this new large bowl from Pier One, but, i guess it works? Looking for other ideas, but still want the art on the wall to be the main focal point. Also want a fabulous fall centerpiece for Thanksgiving, but I'm stumped at what to shop for. There are TOO MANY great things out there.

Mock ups, too, are welecome of course! Wink Thank you!

Suziemaus, DH is waiting on me but when I saw you posted I just had to peek. Your DR is awesome. Struck a chord with me because I, too, am working on mine. I think your room looks sooo good but will check back later to hear others ideas. I'm not the most creative banana in the bunch.

There is an accent table i've been eyeing at Ballard Designs for over a year that I think would be PERFECT for the wall by the stairs! I'll post that after this:

Thanks, a/n - see you later! Wink

Here's that table. Perfect dimensions, straight (or tapered) legs, need it to be open at bottom because of the vent intake, etc. (I had a pic of this from the paper catalog taped up to the wall before I even had any furniture last year!) What do you think? Comes in "rubbed black" and antique white, too. But I think the walnut (shown) would look good. 'tis simple, but nice.

ok, what else do you want to know? Ummm...oh, here's the table cloth i might use for Thanksgiving. I put it over a solid orange cloth. Christmas, over a red or green. This table seats up to 10 i think. I currently have 1 of the 2 leaves in. I have 8 chairs (the other 2 arm chairs are in the living room for now)

Ok, that last post is kind of dark, but it reminded me to tell you that the window sill is 16 1/2" deep. So there is room there for decor - Please not too much! My 2 plants have served me well so far. Also a good place for extra whatever when we run out of room at the table on Thanksgiving. :-) It's a gray day out there, but you can still see some of the pretty autumn colors!

Last shot, I promise! (Unless you need something else for a mockup.) Wink

I like the bowl from pier one! Do you plan on putting an area rug underneath your table?

suzimaus you have a beautiful dining room! I love everything you've done with it and I also do like the Pier 1 bowl.

The one thing is that I agree with CMM. I think you need a rug under there.

ETA: Forgot to say that I think that little accent table would be perfect in that spot. Yes, the walnut finish.

i like it just as it is, i don't think the art needs anything, but that's just me suzie, i like things very simplistic. it is a beautiful room. love your table and chairs. a rug would be great however.

I love the bowl! Why aren't you sure about it? The demilune table is perfect for the wall. The shape means no bruised hipbones! LOL I'm not sure about the walnut color, though. Your furniture appears to have reddish undertones, and the walnut doesn't. But, the black or white don't do anything for me, either! At the risk of opening up a whole new can of worms Razz, I also have to give a resounding YES to a rug. That's probably the thing you think is missing.

I agree with robbiesmom with regard to the walls. you've got a lovely piece of art there and I really don't think you need anything eles to either side.

Thanks, you wonderful people! I KNEW someone was going to say rug, and ahem, shoot! You all said it! I don't want one. Frown is that bad? I just think about the sweeping, vacuuming, bunching, etc. What a pain. Frown

RM: I like the simplicity, too. Hate too much "stuff".

The sconces idea might be far-fetched. Because if i DID decide i wanted them, I'd want fully functional hard-wired ones, and that'd be a pain. Besides, I really don't NEED anymore light in here. The chandelier is on a dimmer and provides plenty when i need it. See? I'm sitting here right now. Big Grin

Oh, what about a plant on that black pedestal in the corner? Should I add some green? (I'm not very good w/ house plants, though - another pain.)

Love the last pic, makes me feel like you're sitting there looking at me like this:

Okay, so you don't want a rug. That's okey dokey with me! I won't have one, either. When my room is more than bare drywall, that is!

Yes, something on the pedestal, and green would be nice. I am not in the anti-silk camp, BTW. There are some nice ones that don't look cheesy. You could also do a floral arrangement that you would change with the seasons.

thank you again, everybody. Ok. I like the bowl again. I just put it in this stand which was holding my beautiful Wedgwood bowl today - but unfortunately, the ww is too small for this table. Frown now i need to find another standy thingy. Where do you get these? i think i bought mine online in 98. That was 10 years ago already. I was shopping online back then? When did eBay start? oye, we're getting old.

Fabulous centerpiece for fall? The bowl is good for everyday, but....

Love the accent table for by the stairs! I also think that you need another table under that art in the dining room. Like a sideboard or sofa table, nothing big, maybe black!
