I just had my dining room repainted last week. It went from BM Great Barrington Green to SW Humble Gold. I have two regular windows, as well as a bay window that need to be treated. I also need slipcovers for the dining room chair cushions.
I originally had valances on the two individual windows, then I had panels on either side of the outside of the bay window. The individual windows could have some sort of covering (shade, etc) but it's not necessary as you can't really see in the house from those windows. The bay window though, faces my neighbor's house. I don't really need privacy, but something light filtering would be nice - ever since that house was built, I get sun through those windows and have noticed that it is fading the wood on the back of the dining chairs. I'd love to do plantation shutters on all the windows, but unfortunately, don't have that in my budget! I will include some pictures of the space, but please excuse the mess - I have not put everything away yet so there is stuff all over my dining room table and the floor. I will also be getting rid of the tablecloth. ![]() |

The other windows. The mirror will be hung b/w the windows above the dresser. I know that dresser is a bit big for the space, but I have to keep it there for now.

Here is a different angle.

And this is how the space looked last Christmas. I should have hung the panels closer to the ceiling but they would have been too short.

I just noticed the time and have to run to get my kids from school. When I get back, I'll post a few samples of fabric I'm considering. I'm looking for ideas on styles for treating the windows as well as fabric suggestions (what coordinates with the fabric I like for the windows). I'd also like some ideas on what to put on the dresser. The lamp stays but the clock can be moved.

Here is one fabric (thanks to schmetterling!).

Here is the other - I really like this fabric, but it's from Calico Corners and at $45/yd, there's no way I can buy it there. Unless I can find it elsewhere, I'm just looking for something similar to it.

And one more...another that I found at Calico Corner but have seen it online for much cheaper.

I think I like the last one best.

Thanks, Lu - that is actually one that I have loved for years and years and when I went in there recently, they didn't have it anymore. They had a sample valance still hanging on the wall, so they ordered a swatch for me. I do like that one best.
Do you have any thoughts on how to "dress" the windows? For example - should I do valances again on the two windows? How should I treat the bay window? Valances also that wrap around the interior of the space? I'm no good at this! |

Hi Merella,
I think that Roman shades on your bay window area like maybe a London style would look great! then do coordinating panels on the other two windows.....I love the wall color and the first fabric would look beautiful! I just recently repainted my kitchen/breakfast nook and gathering room to SW Blonde. What is your color? I will also try to post a few pictures of window treatment ideas for you.... here is one from another post I had replied to. Gina ![]() |

Gina, funny you should ask about the color - I remember seeing your kitchen and asking you what color it was b/c I loved it! What's weird is that when I saw SW Blonde on the color swatch at the SW store, it looked much "browner" in person. I ended up going with SW Humble Gold. I was afraid that the Blonde would be too brown, although it doesn't look that way in your kitchen at all!

I love the window seat idea and think it would warm up all the wood. You could do a bunch of fabrics and it would be really pretty.

That Humble Gold is really beautiful in your room!
