Even though we spent the weekend in Chicago -- I have NOTHING to bring back! But . . . we did get something new last week!

"Dolly" -- a year old female corgi that was abandoned at a gas station -- a friend rescued her and called us. She's adorable! And our 14 year old corgi likes her (the most important thing in adopting her).

I decided to replace the light color china cabinet I got on CL last year for this one. Since it going to end up in the Living room where it is first you see as you enter from the front door. I wanted this style of mahogany cabinet with mullions like this.

I saw this on CL for $80 and figured it would be gone right away. These are usually just under $1,000(in that range)but in decent condition. This one said veneer damage, needs to be replaced. OK, I ignored it for about a week. Then came across it again (the post). So, I decided to view it. I told DH that the doors were similar sizes, so for 4 doors and some mahogany shelving, it might be worth it. The price had dropped to $73. I will post more photos later on today, have appointments to go to, but....
When I viewed it... it was NOT veneer damage, though there are two small places where veneer is missing (pieces in the drawer!)it was the factory finish that was flaking off! Like it was in storage with temps too high...so I got it!
DH went back with me the next day to pick it up and said 'this is worth refinishing' no real damage.

So, this is my winter project to strip off all the old finish and use tung oil or equivalent on it. I want a more natural, hand rubbed finish on it.
This cabinet will store some shell display and my smaller decorating themed books.

Top and bottom pieces are separate, and total 80" in height.

To add:
In the ad it did not mention the top drawer was a desk, and that there are leather inserts in the pull down flap. AND that the skeleton key was in the drawer!
All doors and drawers work perfectly. No mold, no odors, and no manufacturing markers anywhere that I have found yet.

Just realized I didn't post that one piece of glass is missing, regular glass, no big deal to replace.

Linderhof,
Love the Corgi, used to have one that looked just like her! She is adorable!

Mary Ruth -- I've always liked those cabinets as well and you got a steal of a deal!

Good job!

Didn't know you had a corgi -- they are adorable dogs!

What great finds this week. I have a heart the size of Texas when it comes to cats and dogs. If I could, I'd have a dozen of each! What a lucky lucky dog!

And Mary Ruth, what a fabulous find! It is GORGEOUS! What a lucky lucky find for you!

Only two pictures so far this week but what gorgeous finds they both are!

Martha, who could abandon such a beautiful dog? I wonder if she didn't somehow get out of a car and the owners are looking for her? Guess she didn't have a tag?

Mary Ruth that cabinet is stunning! I bet its size is what kept it from being a run away sale. What a good buy you made!

Our local consignment shop was having a yard sale and I got four pieces of brown/white transfer ware and a pile of linens. The linens were $25 and included a lace & damask banquet cloth, a new pink damask table cloth, luncheon cloth, 8 linen hand towels a crocheted square etc. All now laundered and the banquet cloth dried on the hammock which is great for such dryings as I could not spin the cloth in the washer a/c lace so it was sopping wet when I placed it on the hammock.

Oh, Linderhof, what a sweet-looking Corgi. How wonderful that your older dog tolerates her and how kind you are to adopt her.

Mary Ruth, you found a real steal. It sounds like you have hours of work to get the finish the way you want it, but what an incredible piece you will have afterwards.

Maine Lady, Unfortunately, I could not see your picture. I hope you will fix it because it sounds like an amazing way to commemorate this last year in your lives.

Lady of Shallot, it sounds like you found some nice linens once again. I avoid even looking at linens most of the time because they tend to follow me home when I do...LOL!

Here is a picture of a set of Spode chargers that I won recently on eBay. I love the wicker pattern. The second picture shows them under my Lenox Chirp dishes. I tried them under my Spode Woodland Turkey and they looked good with that pattern, too. I wish I had received them in time for a dinner party two weeks ago, but I'm looking forward to using them in the future.

Graciepj, your chargers go so perfectly with your dishes, which I greatly admire.

Linderhof, sweet looking dog.

Mary Ruth, what a wonderful find and price!

Lady of Shallot, I have a fondness for transferware and have been collecting a few pieces to go in my fairly new, built-in kitchen hutch. It is painted "oval room blue" and I particularly like the brown transferware with it.

I very much enjoyed seeing everyone's finds! I'm glad for those who share their finds.

Linderhof,
I wasn't sure what I would find when going to see this china cabinet. They had paid $340 for it a couple of years ago thinking they could refinish it, but they decided to let go of the unfinished project and just wanted it gone. Lucky me to get it for such a great price....

Of course it needs a lot of work still, but I have a wall unit now that it took me about 6 months to refinish totally, so this doesn't scare me. I can work on a little at a time.

Maine Lady,
Did you mean to post a photo of the painting? I didn't see any on your post.

Cathy,
I can't wait to get to working on it! I did wash it down and clean it as well as use the compressor on it blowing out all seams and cracks. The full back is interesting, not like the new ones, but real wood pieces. I will take photos as I work on it and will abosolutely love taking an AFTER photo.
I thought I would use the doors with those perfect mullions but it turns out we are going to keep it all intact.

LOS, Maybe, but they had it listed that the veneer was all damaged. BUT, it was not, it was only the finish, the veneer has some scratches which are easily fixed.

Graciepj,
That Spode charger is amazing! I had seen it before and fell in love with it! And those Lenox Chirp dishes are wonderful with that charger!

Thanks cassia!

This is the top drawer of the center in the base. This is a small desk drawer. Picture shows the drawers open, the leather inserts. All work well.

The drawer was removed from the chest while moving it.

Linderhof, that sure looks like a sweetheart! So glad she found a good home. Many years ago, we had a dog that had been abandoned and he was part of the family for the next 14 years!

Mary Ruth, the cabinet looks beautiful in the photo. What a steal! It always seems sweeter to me when I feel like I really scored on something I wanted. I'm sure you probably feel the same way.

LOS, I'm always checking out the linens at the TS's and have found some beautiful items that I frequently use in my tablscapes. Sounds like you found some lovelies too!!

Gracie, Those chargers are wonderful. They will be very versatile for your table settings.

I found this pair of chairs at the Unique TS today. Monday is 25% off day and they were $9.99 each so with the discount they were $14.98 for the pair. The upholstery is stained and dirty, but they are very sturdy and I will probably reupholster them unless they clean up well. There are't any tears or worn spots in the fabric so I will probably see how they clean up before I decide, but I am thinking of painting the woodwork.

What do you ladies think, paint it or clean it up and use some Restore a Finish on it?

Thanks for your advice.
Candy

Wow! Fabulous finds again - great deal on those chairs and Hello Dolly! We love watching the corgis play at the park. Pound for pound that has to be the most active breed I've ever met! Great dogs - congratulations

And we found a dog too! Only this one doesn't shed Wink Found at an estate sale this weekend. Haggled the price like you wouldn't believe (and I left other beauties behind). Sorry for the angle, couldn't keep the glare off him any other way. Framed it is 2ftx2ft - quite a sizable piece.

Frown. I don't know what happened. I posted a photo of our painting and the window popped up that said it had been successfully loaded. I don't know why it isn't showing up, nor do I know how to fix it. I'm sorry.

Maine Lady - I wonder why it won't let you post the pic? Any time my pics are too big I get the warning and it fails, but it has never failed to post otherwise. Have you tried re-sizing the photo on the off chance it is too big but the board failed to tell you?

Linderhof - they had a house full of English dog portraits/oils and it was really hard to walk away from the miniatures of pointers in action! I've been dying for a "traditional" piece for our living room. Beautiful spaniel was available as well, but he was sitting - no brace of birds or birds on the wing in the background. This guy is in action!

Thank you Everyone!

It's always fun to watch the postings and see your finds for the week.

Martha, Dolly looks so smart. Glad she is with you and your home.

Maine Lady, Enjoy your painting. I know it has a special place and meaning for you and DH. Love to see the pic when it lets you post.

LOS, Those sound like lovely finds. Good idea to use the hammock for drying the linens.

Gracie, Those chargers fit right in with the bird plates too. Have fun playing with the table settings.

Candy, Your chairs were a steal. They would be in 100's range here. Have fun with them.

Mary Ruth, Great Find! I know you will make it look pretty when you decorate it. Love the desk design within the cabinet and the leather.

JC, A beautiful find. I hope it makes you smile every time you see it.

Thanks again!

Martha, love your find best of all. I'm glad the little guy found a good home and a new friend to play with.

MR, again, you find the best things at the best prices. CL in your area has great things. If we had anything like that on ours, it would be to highly priced.

Gracie, never met a plate I didn't like. Those are so sweet. I have blue plates with a little bird on it too and I love them. Wish I had bought more actually. Ha, I thought that was real wicker on the edges of the chargers. Love them.

C.Candy, great find and you can't beat the price. I like the finish on the wood but I think I'd recover them in some fabulous fabric. I don't know what style of decor you have though. They make look better painted. Where will you put them?

JC, great dog pic.

The big flea market was last week and I was a good girl. I am trying not to buy unless I know exactly where I will put something. I did pick up these resin starfish. I will put them in the french country bedroom when I change it to a more beachy look. $5.00 for all.

I have a shadow box table that I put unique items on display. I picked up this victorian pen and lipstick holder at the flea market to add to it.

Great finds, everyone! (Especially darling Dolly!)

I found a small white wicker table for $5 at an estate sale and a carnival glass candy dish. The table has some damage to the wicker on one leg, but it's minor and won't show when placed between my chairs on the porch.

Here's a picture of the candy dish along with a few glass pieces I picked up last weekend. I want to try a faux mercury glass technique on them.

Christmas Candy,
Those chairs are amazing! And you got such a great deal on them! I hope you don't have to recover them!

junk collector,
I love the dog picture, the frame is real nice too.
It depends on where you hang the photo, but I always seemed to get it hung where there would be so much glare on my pictures I finally brought them in one by one to have the glass exchanged to knock-down glass, really makes a difference!

Maine Lady,
What a shame! I wonder what the problem is with this site where some people are still having problems with posting photos!

Beau's Rose,
Thanks, I have already put a couple of things in it to see how they would look. White shells look great with mahogany behind it.

VG,
Thanks! I still can't believe I have that cabinet in my house! It all just seemed to flow until the cabinet got here.
I love the resin shells, I have a few and a few in metal as well.
Is that a gold pen or mechanical pencil? I have one similar, I inherited from my aunt, love it, I can put that in my desk drawer of the china cabinet I just got! Did you notice that the key had a cute little tassel attached? I was so happy to hear that they had the key and then it had the tassel too!

I can see the 60's type modern art in that vase painting, nice colors.

Shadesofbleu,
Nice carnival glass. And picking up a porch table for only $5 is great! Nice dishes, please post photos of the mercury glass technique you try on those!

VG, The starfish are really lovely and the other pieces sound like they were all great buys. The pen looks especially intriguing!

The chairs are for our house in Sedona, but we won't actually be snowbirding there for a couple of years. I just couldn't pass up such a great deal, especially if I am going to be redoing them. We have an area in the home that is exclusive to us that the renters don't use, so we can take them down there and leave them after I decide on their fate.

SOfB, The table sounds like it is perfect for your porch. The carnival glass is quite pretty and I hope your mercury glass turns out!

Mary Ruth, The upholstery is perfect other than the water stains and the dirt. It is a nice cream color that could work with almost any color scheme. I want to try steam cleaning it to see if it will come clean, so probably won't get to it immediately. Fortunately, I have a couple of years to get them ready, LOL

TTFN,
Candy
