It is slow moving and 1,000 miles wide, that makes it tougher to wait it out. Cold weather and no power is NOT a good combination in any situation.
We have weather warning alert still up. We have winds and critically low humidity which means fires can spread fast. East Coast Mid-Florida region. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mary Ruth,

Here in northern MA we got rain and a lot of wind. Minor power outages for me, but DH was like a little kid using his generator
Today was actually warm and sunny for a while, now it's overcast and sprinkling again.
With all the trees around my house, I am grateful that none of them came down. I heard WV got a lot of snow and New York and New Jersey, well we've all heard about that. Again, I am grateful that Sandy was not closer and did not do too much harm in my area.
Aside from heavy winds and rain and losing our cable for about 20 hours (no phone, t.v. internet) we fared very well.
Manhattan and New Jersey sadly are another story.
Here is a pic from the town my sister has a vacation house (which I think is east of this street) They were there and left in time on Saturday, but who knows what their house looks like?
We here in SE PA (near the DE line...also tax free shopping ) were lucky. Aside from strong winds, lots of rain/local river flooding and some power outages and downed trees, we were very fortunate. DH and I had our generator at the ready as this area is known for frequent wind related outages(DH describes it as if we sneeze, we're out of power). We only had some flickering of lights and one 30 sec. outage of power to deal with much to our amazement. We are not on a package phone/PC/cable tv deal so we had our land line go out briefly this AM while cable and the PC was not interrupted. No need for the generator...this time.
Thoughts and prayers are w/ those greatly devastated from this historic storm system that is still reeking havoc in some areas of the US. I have longed to visit a DE, MD or NJ beach for some years now since we're not far from any of them but it looks like it will be a long time before they're ready for vacationers.

This really was a bad one. My brother and sister-in-law live in Rockaway beach. They lost both of their cars but their condo is okay (they're on the 4th floor).
My brother's in-laws live in Breezy Point. Fortunately, their house wasn't one of the ones that burned but it did flood.
I feel so bad for those who lost their homes and haven't been able to get back to them. Sadness all around. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Skyler,

Skyler -- I hope their condo is truly ok. Last year friends in NYC were banned from their condo for 6 months due to the foundation being undermined by Irene. Only one person at a time was permitted into the bldg. to recover personal items and valuables that could be carried out.
My Life, funny you should mention that. I was just talking to my mom and she said they were being told to leave because water damage on the first floor. They need to relocate until they can assess whether or not the building is safe. I feel so bad for them.
Even worse, my sis-in-law has to deal with this by herself because my brother is here in California and can't get back due to airport closures. He came out to visit and got stuck! I just heard Kennedy and Newark had reopened so hopefully he can fly back soon.
