I'm so excited! Our upholsterer took the sofa and both chairs last Thursday and we got them back yesterday. They look GREAT! He does a fabulous job.

We rearranged the room a while back and liked it as it made for a more comfortable conversation grouping and was nicer for the rarest watching of TV, so I guess it'll stay that way. Still have some little things to tweak with this arrangement.

I've been waiting 15 years to find acceptable fabrics and get these upholstered and now it's done.

I think one of the things that's gonna need a tweaking is the wall color. What do ya'll think?

Maybe Wythe Blue?

Or Salisbury Green?

Or who knows what else. I know I'm not going to look forward to repainting that ceiling detail!

I don't remember what it used to look like, BUT the furniture looks brand new! The upholsterer did a great job!

I think blue would be nice with your furniture. Would the rug be staying? I can't see much of the ceiling, but I think you have to tape off and cut in, right? I cringe every time I have to think of someone looking up (neck issues)for a long time...

It doesn't look so bad in the pic, but my mom said the guy she bought it from had it upholstered in the 60s. By now it was threadbare in some places and the orange velvet chair refused to get any cleaner-not that orange is personally within my acceptable range of colors for furniture anyway.

Annie, my mom saw the screen in a consignment store years ago and told me I needed to go have a look at it right away before it was gone. I promptly got in the car and went to have a look. It came home with me that very night. The family room in that house was quasi-oriental, kind of like our living room here. It was funny that she would have mentioned it since she has never encouraged us to shop unnecessarily. I guess that kind of makes it even more special.

MR-Ultimately, I'd like a different rug as I've been dragging that little rug around since I bought the screen-or the furniture for that matter. I'd like a new one, maybe larger but perhaps with a distinct pattern like the little one. I think it helps hold the dark woods together with the lighter furniture at ground level. I haven't started looking for one yet since I didn't know what the room would end up looking like. Ready to go now!

I really want that little plant stand behind the loveseat where a sofa table might go, but then there's a huge bald spot between the door and the chair and not enough room to move the chair toward the door without narrowing the walk path uncomfortably. I'm puttering in the attic, so maybe I'll come across something I forgot was up there that will provide a solution.

As for the ceiling, depending on the wall color, I may decide to leave the ceiling in the green since there are greens all around the room. Who knows, it might look great. Other than that, I'll paint the design and once cured, tape over what I just painted and paint the white part to get the straight lines. It has a texture and the colored part doesn't, so it's easier to paint it in reverse. As for the neck, at my height, I can pretty much look straight across the surface. I got lucky on that!

Looking great! Talented upholsterer. I'm not familiar with those color names, but I think a deeper shade of green would be lovely with both the ceiling color and the dining room...and your gorgeous furniture would stand out against a darker color.

I really paid attention to the ceiling this time, YA I see how hard that is going to be! BUT what great results! I think the same color as the wall adds height to the room somehow. I was thinking of adding something to my living room ceiling, BUT... I do not have walls on all sides. I do like your ceiling. AND I remember the room now, thanks for posting the before photo. I remember the gold chair now and the green striped wing back. Nice changes.

LOVE the hat rack and the cabinet in front of the folding screen, nice mix. Have FUN searching for a rug.

I like the green.It's fresh and clean feeling.But if the fabric has blue in it.A blue wold look wonderful too.

a couple of years ago, I did the same thing with a couple of Queen chairs, and when finished they looked amazing. I also had a great upholsterer. I was lucky that in my area I had a store that had great upholster materials, so I could choose them rather quickly because of the variety that they had.
I love your home, That is the kind of room flow that I am partial to. For me, I want a living room, a dining room a family room, no open concept for me. Each room with a purpose. And that is what I have in my home also.

OK, let me make this clear-it was DONNIE'S idea to go have a look at the Duncan Phyfe drum table he found when were were looking for end tables a few weeks ago. It was at our friend's Antique shop and since I haven't seen them since we moved to this house, I thought it might be nice to go visit and check out the table. It's a tad large but I think there are ways to work it in. It's a pretty nice piece although the top needs refinished.

THEN while we were there, I was looking around for a certain rug they used to have at their old shop. Finally I just asked about it. They still had it an it was rolled up, and folded over on itself, and didn't look too spry. I had been eying that rug for several years now but just didn't have anywhere to put it. I liked it because it was a unique color and pattern, and wasn't overly demanding AND it was the size I was looking for.

We brought them both home and here they are in the living room. The table needs some TLC on the top as it seems to be stripped of finish and the rug needs a Doctor BAD as it had that kind of damp storage odor to it. This is something I can fix! So, tomorrow when I go in to work, I'll bring a Rug Doctor home and work that rug-and while I'm at it, I might as well do some of the other carpets and fluff the nap on them while I'm at it.

The reupholstered furniture needs the wood rehabbed so adding the table top will be a breeze.

For the bald spot behind the loveseat, I moved Donnie's chair-side radio to fill the void. I think it will be ok.

We have decided to repaint but have to do some research on it as it will need to be something that unifies the whole space more than they already are.

For anyone who doesn't know, Donnie is my DH and we met here on this board. People that have been around a while know him by name.

RKER-I'm not an open concept person either. I like rooms with specific functions that have doors to them. I like seeing over peoples open rooms, but it's just not for me.

Kathy-We used our upholsterer many times. When you want something done, you call him and he puts you on his list. The wait to come up on his list can be 2 or 3 months, but when he calls and tells you he's ready to do your work, you are the only person he is working on until he's done with what you want-even if it's several rooms. He picks up your stuff, works on only your stuff and has it back in a couple of days. He had the loveseat for 1 day.

Although the wait can be long, you don't have to live in an empty house while the other upholsterers work your pieces in. I sent 8 dining chair cushions to the other place around (couldn't reach my regular guy) and it took 3 weeks to get them back. I really wasn't impressed with the turn-around time or the workmanship. I'll stick with my guy no matter how long the wait!

Anyway, here's the altered room. I'll put some close-ups on MMF.

Love your newly reupholstered sofa. Looks so great and really like your furniture arrangement. Your upholstery guy is a gem. Mine passed away a couple of years ago and am starting to look for one that does the same quality of work and am finding out its no easy task.

French doors into the dining room, great way to not feel the rooms are an open concept, I like this feature.

IDEA:
What about something different behind the folding screen? Using the frame of the door idea and carrying that top board across to a rectangular space on the wall creating a panel wall design, ending the same space as to the left of the door in the corner? Then the same measurement as the door on the right side do a horizontal member coming down, then a smaller panel created in the center. Now paint the whole area in your trim color. This would make a balanced feature wall on that side of the room framing your very much treasured screen that is STAYING in your home for as long as you live there. ??? Altered photo attached.

I like the darker rug in there as well (cut back tassels perhaps? High traffic areas will look neater without the fringe always moving.

LOVE the round table and the cabinet behind love seat. more of a wood-balanced look.

Hi Christie..... Love the fabric you chose and OMG.... your upholsterer is incredible.

I had one a few years ago who operated the same way.... You were put on a list but when he called, the turnaround was amazing.

You must be thrilled with those pieces... They're beautiful and even the photos show the quality of his work.

They did a nice job on the upholstery. I like the green, but blue would like nice too.
