Anyone have one of those portable a/c units you vent out a window?

Any recommendations or suggestions? I've kinda been looking around and last year when I decided I should get one, none were around anymore...

My only issue is that my window is taller than 48inches...I would think they would have spacers for larger windows.

i had one in a previous home (for when it got too humid for the swamp cooler). i got mine online from compact appliance. i also bought a wine cooler from them--they have very good service and i think free shipping.

My suggestion is that if you want one, commit to buying one this weekend, or very soon. In my neck of the woods, they can be difficult to find once the temperature is consistently hot.

Does it just sit in the room and has a tube running to put out the window or a sink to drain?

I'm kind of interested in how well they work.

I have a feeling that the new HVAC system I had installed last fall is not going to be able to keep my upstairs cool enough for me. And because the house is so large and there are only two of us (and mostly only me and the dog) I am thinking of putting one in the bedroom. I have a room ac in the closet window, but its too far away to really be effective even with a fan to blow the cool air into the bedroom.

    Love,
    Lu

I have a Haier I bought several years ago at Target. I'm kind of a fan of hot weather so I only use it when it is very hot and humid. I can come home in the evening and turn it on and the bedroom is cool in 20-30 minutes. It does vent through the window. Here is a pic of another brand. Forgot to mention, these units were selling for close to $1500 several years ago. I got mine for $200 but it doesn't have a remote.

I ordered the Danby from Costco.com yesterday. I'll let you all know how it works out when I get it.

If it doesn't work out, I can return it to the store for a full refund plus shipping. Not bad huh?

Plus I picked up a ceilig fan this morning for the bedroom. I'm trying to be proactive before the warm season.

This is the unit I ordered at Costco.
