Hello,

I have a set of 50" wide by 84" long curtain panels that I hang from curtain rings. The problem is they don't hang right. I don't know if the panels are cut wrong or I'm just doing something wrong.

How far apart should the curtain clips be placed and are there any tricks to keep the lining from showing on the ends?

Also, how do you get them to hang straight on the bottom and sides?

Let's see, what is at the top of the curtain? Is there stitching, pleating, a pocket or other means of having a 'top' fabricated. I ask because in a pinch pleat (like the old style where you put in a hook) there is a stiff interfacing that holds the shape of the drapery top, since regular fabric is just not stiff enough to hold the shape.

When you hold the drapery in your arms you would note the weight of the whole panel. Well each clip grabs the fabric at some point, but the weight of the fabric hanging below it pulls on that top. So, unless there is some stiffer fabric under the top part of the drapery, it will sag.

Do you have a photo of the top part of the drapery to show how yours look? That would help a lot then more people could chime in and give suggestions.

There's no pleating at the of top of these curtain panels. There is a rod pocket but I'm using the rings to allow me to open and close them easily. They're just a flat curtain panel otherwise.

I'm just using a regular curtain rod to hang them from.

The rod pocket drapery does not have enough body to hold the shape at the top, that seems to be the issue.
I am not sure what to tell you except to hang them the way they were meant (made for) to be hung to get the best results. Or you would have to add some interfacing to the top and line the curtain so as not to show on the other side (which would be visible from the street).

If you do not sew, nor have the experience with making drapery, you can do a Google search and see some examples of how the tops differ for different styles of hanging them.

Edited to add: You probably will need a clip ring every six to eight inches. Slip pennies or quarters into the hem to give the panels added weight.

You could also try sliding some stiffening type material into the rod pocket. Maybe some pellon or even lightweight cardboard strips. When I attach rings to a curtain top width I start with one at each end and then one on the middle, one in each of the next two middles and so on. Usually have 9 rings.

Do you have a pic of the curtains/rings so we can see them? What style rod are you using? Does it have a return?

The rings should be spaced evenly and at the same height all the way across. Not sure why the lining would show on the ends. Isn't there some turn back of the face fabric?
