NO need to comment, but I see this has 55 views so at least I hope someone has benefited from the information.

I think the advice given is pretty basic and it gives clues as for better searches, easier and getting email notification if something shows up with your search.

Also I realize there is a lot of Spam now on CL, has happened to me so I had to delete my listing then re-list so that the spammers didn't have the new listing information yet.

In my area there are a lot of 'business' type calls for guys who buy up and bring to a busy consignment shop, so they are looking for certain criteria. But they offer less than 50% right away. I told the guy I could do with the wait... and 2 weeks later a buyer contacted me with the offer I had it listed for. I save NO dealer #'s to call back, but do keep a few people's information and tell them I will get back to them if #1 does not chose to purchase. I did this a couple of times and got my item sold quickly because I had someone waiting for it.

I also ask 'do you have anything else for sale' if I view the item and it is nice and in good shape and the person has good prices (reasonable). One lady said to me 'eventually I am selling all because we plan to downsize. I got to view all in the house for sale (what she was willing to part with at that time) before any of it went on sale. I also left my number with her and what I was interested in for the price she quoted me.

In Virginia, I did this with Freecycle too and I got a few calls that ended up providing me with all the heavy duty moving boxes I needed and the paper to wrap dishes with, and special boxes for glasses, etc. all for free because the other ladies never showed up to get it, I got the whole house worth of moving supplies! At the end, when I got the last of it loaded into my car, she gave me a surprise, a box with tape, string, and markers for my packing! What a NICE family they were!

Mary Ruth, I'm just checking in and saw your post. My CL is terrible and full of junk so I rarely bother checking it, but I'll try some of the tricks listed to see if they help. Thank you for posting the link to the Houzz article and sharing your own tips.

I've bought a dining table, perhaps it was thru Craig's List. Now whenever i think of looking, i do reduce the search to Owners and with pictures only. Some neighborhoods I won't go into, things like that. Smile

thanks for sharing. My house is full up these days but soon when my brother gets his own place, I'll be on the hunt for some fun pieces.

My little Crate & Barrel pedestal table is starting to wobble and isn't quite big enough for 7 people, i may need to start the search sooner.

River City Girl,
I signed up for their updates and take advantage of saving photos in my 'Idea book'. You can upload photos of your own to the photo section, but everyone can see them and comment. I have not been brave enough to do that yet. lol

Graciepj,
Everything online is getting so busy and we are saturated with information, I do not need many things on CL, but just like to pop in and view to see what they have.

wendek,
I was new to this area a couple of years now, so some neighborhoods I only 'saw' once I got near, so I turned around and called the person to cancel siting an appointment elsewhere as my reason.

I hunted for my son and daughter who are both redoing their homes, one moving back into a rental he owns and my daughter bought a house. I have found some great deals! And I am retired now so I have more time than they do to find things.
