How do I find a home inspector that I can trust? I found a site that talks about "American Society of Inspectors" is that a real thing? I'm buying my first house and watching Holmes on Homes is scaring me... Should I pay for two inspections? Please help.

Your real estate agent should be some help in this. Check to see if your "city code enforcement" department has any certifications - also check to see if the inspector has to be licensed in your state.

I would not go with a home inspector that works with your realtor for obvious reasons. Check on Angie's List. I have been burned by using an inspector that had close ties with the realtor when I bought a house years ago.

But why do you need a Inspector? What is the actual problem related to your house?

Absolutely avoid inspectors who are recommended by realtors. You need an independent home inspector who can give you his opinion. I was involved in a situation where the realtor was related to the home inspector who naturally gave a rosy report.
