Inspections Sign In/Join

Is there any recourse a home buyer has when a shoddy inspection is done? My granddaughter went through a nightmare when buying her older home. She and her husband fixed all the problems, and when they listed the house for sale recently, the same inspector came for the inspection. Well, she didn't hold back after he was done. They have bought a new home, but have always wondered if there was a complaint that could have been filed to show he was only getting a paycheck and not doing his work.
