My front door steps are located directly over the basement. Every time it rains, water weeps down the wall and drips off of the 2X4s holding the cement steps up. I haven't seen any HGTV remodels or repairs on an issue like this. I would like to get maint. free decking, but still don't know how to seal off the basement from leakage. As an unemployed, disabled Vet living on 70% disability I need the cheapest and easiest way to fix this, as the foundation in the area is beginning to falter.

Can you post a picture of your steps? You may have to edit the picture to a smaller file as there are size limitations at this site. To add a picture click on the "add attachment?" link below the text box when you create a message.

General Disclaimer

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
