mike your always saying contractors are at fault for doing cover ups but they are at the will of home owner and to do what they want , i work for a good contractor and he does things right but we good to home owners with the problems that are unforseen and do what they want due to costs

SparkyHaving watched Holmes over the years I'd say in most cases the "contractor" was in over his head. He low-balled the bid and didn't have enough money or skills to do the job right. Probably the toughest thing for someone going into business in this industry is to figure out what to charge to win the business without losing his a-- in the process.
Some of the work I've seen by people Holmes has cleaned up after is truly wood butchery. These are guys who don't have a clue how to do the work right. That said, there are good contractors out there besides Mike Holmes.
