this season just clearly WAVED its flags of IGNORANCE AND BAD JUDGEMENT !!! the name Danielle was on the wall from the beginning. somebody up there in HGTV headroom wanted her so BADLY to be the winner - NO MATTER WHAT!! WAKE UP PLEASE, NOBODY HERE REALLY READS YOUR MESSAGES!! BAN THE SHOW, IT IS BOOOORING AND PREDICTABLE !!! | |||

Wow - who tinkled in your Wheaties?? Many of us have beeen on these boards for years and are quite aware HGTV doesn't care much what we think. However, some of us have become friends, love to dish about design and/or the lack of it on the programs - and, for me, this is my one guilty pleasure of the year. This year the contestants were more evenly matched and the challenges were more appropro to the concept of design. Frankly, I enjoyed it. Sorry you didn't. | ||||

i agree with both of the preceding messages about the failure and success of the 2012 season. The designers were a mixed bag of personalities and most were capable interior designers faced with solid challenges and engaging critiques. I enjoyed it more than any other tv program. However, i also agree that danielle was the sentimental favorite from the go, Rachel self-imploded, and the best designer, Britany, was too pretty and blonde to get past Genevieve. Danielle's new show is called Shop This Room, and that says it all about this year's winner- good shopper, but this is design star, not shopping star, and Britany was the better designer. | |||

As I've said, I wanted Hilari to win, overall, but am much happier with a "how to shop" show than a "take pictures and put them in your room" show. I'm a design professional and much of what I do IS shopping with or without clients in tow. I'm constantly having to educate my clients on "how" to shop, and also offer shopping tips on my business page. There is much more to it than walking into a store, thinking something is pretty, buying it and expecting to have it be what you want/need for your overall design plan. I agree, however, that not everyone loves to shop - I was amazed when I went up to Market with 3 colleagues and 2 of them confessed they hate to shop and charge more for a day of shopping than anything else. I'm just the opposite - it's really difficult for me to charge adequately for my time when we're "just shopping" because it's so darn much fun. BUT, you have to know what you're doing and I'm hoping this is where Danielle's show will help. Not everyone can or will call a design professional in for help - let's hope that her show will educate people so they can quit walking into Rooms To Go and pointing. As far as her designs - Danielle is able to step outside her own preferred design area and give the client what they want, no matter what that is - and, boys & girls, that IS the mark of a good designer. | ||||

I'm one of those people who will suffer through a terrible movie for good sets.Even as a kid I loved seeing what other people do with interior design. So obviously I was more than ready to hunker down with my ice cream and be swept away by HGTV. Well, it's been a few years and yes, there have been a few times when I was impressed, inspired, and thoroughly entertained.For me it doesn't happen every show, and certainly not every episode. When it does happen I remind myself that HGTV is in the business to showcase a product that will bring in sponsors as well as viewers. It is not a showcase for high brow museum quality arts and artists. So if you are overwhelmed by beauty or talent just once, while watching a product driven medium, consider yourself lucky. | ||||

Hello doodles64. I thought Hilary should have won too!!! I agree with the second best choice was Danielle. I'll be interest to see how she can help us shop better, give us helpful ideas in putting it all together., I just don't understand why Hilary didn't get the favorite fan vote. | ||||

I'm not upset that Hilari didn't get the "fan" vote - that little gal is going places! She is too talented and too driven to NOT go places, and if HGTV doesn't give her an opportunity she'll still be okay. Now - next week is the Design Star AllStar show, and from what I understand, Hilari will be on that. | ||||

It does surprise me that the theme heading of a show is about shopping I thought the judges were in favor of a lot of designing things. Such as contstruction or reconstruction. But maybe I had the wrong concept. Anyway, some of those guys in past design star contsructed when they could have shopped. And I supect Danielle will do a little green designing too. You know maybe repurpose something. I have to admit that as much as I love some past hosts personalities from this show, I never watch their shows. Antonios are interesting, but I don't need to watch the whole show. And I feel bad to say that Emily's style is also for me always the same, even though to others she may do different, it always looks the same to me. Her style doing others styling. Does that make sense. The show has changed over the years. it pleases more. Yet I believe the original concept is lost. | ||||

I don't trust the fan vote anyway. Yuki was first to get eliminated and she came in as number 2? I smell a rat there. It was the same on "Food Network Star". One contestant lobbied heavily online and on radio programs to get more votes and it worked. There was no way she would have come in second place without that. I'm not a designer, just someone that appreciates good design, and I realize a lot of what designers do involves shopping. It just seems a little misleading when after 6 seasons of harping on the contestants that the name of the show is "Design Star" not "Shopping Star" that they should suddenly decide to switch gears. I'm a Hilari fan too - I'm just hoping that her entry into the All Stars season means she still has a chance to get a show on HGTV. I agree with Doodles that no matter what happens she has a bright future, but I want to be able to see her in that future! | |||

I really doubt she will ONLY be shopping. I'd say probably more likely to show people HOW to shop AND translate that into making their space fabulous. Anyone can shop - but it takes the experience and trained eye to know where to shop, what will work, what really does fit in with the overall plan and what will throw it all off, how to use the available space and find exactly the right thing to put there. I'm truly hoping this is a good show and will educate the average homeowner who may not be willing or able to hire a professional. When you walk into a large showroom it can be overwhelming - and if you're looking for just the right piece you may be hitting several of these showrooms in one day not to mention all the little hidden shops that you really don't think will have anything but need to check out also. Many people get so frustrated they settle for "okay" - one of my cardinal rules when shopping with a client is that they must, absolutely must totally love every single thing we put in there or we move on and find something they DO love. | ||||
