All Star Mistake
Hillary should have won All Stars! She did a great design tonight as always, and she is consistent with her camera challenges. Leslie's room was awful! Hillary transitioned to her outside space and gave great tips! Anyone can go to a store and buy chairs for an outside space as did Leslie. Hillary's otside space was well executed and space planning on the inside was spot on! Panel SCREWED UP!

Hillary’s outdoor space was so beautiful, not to mention clever, that I ‘m thinking about doing something like it in my backyard. Hillary shared so many ideas that she inspired me to do projects around my house. Leslie winning disappointed me so badly; it made me wonder if this show is on the up and up.

I am stunned. That run that Leslie did was just awful. Too much stuff in it and not enough color. How did she win. Plus, I haven't forgotten her attitude with Dan. She is not a star. She couldn't do a room in my house not even for free!

The outdoor space was emphasized as being important for this challenge, so how did Leslie win?

The judges were just determined to adore Leslie's cluttered mess. The fix was in, and it was so obvious. Leslie's outside space was the worst by far--the outdoor umbrella practically blocked the entrance, and most of the space was just blank and empty on that front porch.

Tom's design was beautiful--the porch did lack, but still more thoughtful than Leslies.

Brittani was a star in every way in this challenge. I was proud of her and Tom in their camera challenges, but found Leslie uncomfortable to watch.

I agree with you all so much. I thought Hillari had the win in the bag. I thought Leslie's room was messy and odd and her outdoor space was blah - no personality at all. I hope HGTV gives Hillari something else.

I agree with everyone else. Hilary soooo should have won. I can't imagine why they picked the blonde. I hope Hilary realizes that the viewing audience thinks she is/should have been the winner.

I could not agree more. Leslie's room was a cluttered, unsophisticated mess. The only thing going for it was the "murphy" bed which was certainly far from finished looking.

Tom's space was so charming and cultured and all the details were perfect but Hilari by far had the complete package, she made wonderful use of the deck, the interior looked creative, comfortable and useable and relatable.

I hate to say it but did the judges think that maybe either Tom or Hilari would outshine the work they themselves do? And that Leslie would really not be any competition for them?

Congrats Leslie! Great job! The only designer to use such an obvious choice, the Murphy Bed, for such a small space. And let's face it she was the most at ease on the camera challenge and smiled. Deserving winner!

I am bewildered that Leslie took home the top prize. I don't always agree with the judges but I can usually appreciate how/why they've reached a particular decision. This time, I am stumped -- and really disappointed.

Leslie, is that you? LOL

Sure Mustangs3, we each have our own individual point of view, but did you not notice that there’s an uproar going on here!

Wow! That was just wrong. It should've been Hilari or Tom.

Hilari had a beautiful and functional place. Her front porch was the best of all three. Her place was vibrant and exciting. We want a designer to take us out of the ho hum and take it up a few noches - Hilari did that!

Tom's space was also excellent. It was so sophisticated. I think he has a lot to offer viewers. I'd love to learn how to pull together a space like he does. And it looks so rich! Now if we could achieve that on a budget I'd be super excited!

Leslie, oh my. Nice lady but her space was too cluttered and just not what I am looking for.

I'm just perplexed at this choice.

I think since it was the obvious choice Leslie proved she couldn't design something unique. Both Tom and Hilari thought outside the box, Leslie just did the obvious.

Once again, Hilari was cheated. It's obvious her design ability is not the reason she didn't win the challenge. I am very disappointed with the judges.

If the judges based their choice on the last show, Hilary outshined Leslie by far. Sometimes I think the judges only go thru the process of all the shows when they already know who is going to be the winner. Geneve(not sure how to spell her name) gets on my last nerve. Leslie is ok but I would not make a point to watch her on her own show. There is something about her personality that just does not click with me. Oh well, really sad that Hilary did not win !!!

I too thought Hilari should have won. 1- Hilari 2- Tom 3- Leslie. Tom is amazing, so classic & sophisticated. Leslie's was as David said to her "a hot mess". But, Hilari's design won hands down. I would want to live in her container. She also has a great personality.

I agree with everyone here (except Mustang). Tom and Hilari far surpassed Leslie in every way. A child could see that.

Many people want to know what the judges were thinking to make such an obvious blunder or worse, a deliberately false choice. I believe it was a PC decision on HGTV's part to promote "diversity". Check out the thread about Leslie being called "the new face of g*y" and things will fall into place.

I wonder why "they" even bother to put on a show when it's all a big set up anyway.

Oddly, though, i have seen a few changes in Design Star over the seasons that seem to have come from viewer comments here. Makes me hope that they'd do a better job with it next year considering how shocked everyone is that Leslie won.

They may view here, but they certainly won’t acknowledge any fault. Matter of fact, I think HGTV is hoping enough time will pass by so that no one will have an interest rehashing the subject and it will be swept under the designer rug!

I don't think the murphy bed made up for the lack of good design in the rest of the room, and the blah porch. Tom messed up with the porch too. Even after David told him it was going to be a big deal. So I think Hillary aced that challenge.

Truth be told, the coral/salmon/peach family of color is my least favorite of all colors. Can't stand it, no matter how trendy!

So.... when Hilari used the peachy/coral in her space, I thought I would hate it. But.... of all the spaces, I liked hers best! (in spite of the color on the wall)

Although Tom's space was sophisticated, I found it a bit overwhelming.

And although Leslie's space was beach inspired, there was so little "beach" in the space.... which lacked the light and airy feel of a beach cottage. She did have some good ideas, but it didn't feel like a space that I'd want to spend time in.

Of course, I'm still feeling like I'd have liked to have seen Dan get this far. For the record, I LIKED his punchy green!

It seems that the panel (Gen, in particular) had specific expectations when it comes to color- and Dan's green and Hilari's Coral cost them.

But the allstars concept was kind of fun. I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Big fat "Huh???"

I'm still wondering why Leslie was an all-star in the first place. Then I wondered why she wasn't sent home after almost any of the 3 first challenges. How she won the whole shebang is a great big fat mystery to me.

Although I'm a big Tom fan - I think he has a great design sensibility and exquisite taste, and a charming personality - I think Hilari's final design was the winner. Her design of the outdoor space and her use of the open bookcase as a "multipurpose surface" outshone any of the other elements of the other designs. She embraced the challenge the most successfully.

Leslie's design was an epic fail, IMO. My favorite part of Leslie is her arms. They're amazing.

Either Tom or Hilari should have won, but my favorite room was Hilari's. I can't believe she got robbed a SECOND time! Leslie's work was clearly the most inferior!

And I can't believe Leslie is gloating about "diversity" - A Hilari win would not exactly have been a vote for non-diversity. In fact, how many black female designers are there on HGTV right now? Danielle is only half black. If we're going to get picky about how diverse we are, let's split hairs about just how diverse the winner really is. Do we really need another skinny blonde on TV? Really - I'm being sarcastic to make a point. It's all so stupid!

The most deserving person should have won based on their DESIGN, not what PC demographic they need to kiss up to. HGTV is not about design but about what's PC anymore. The only thing they seem to know how to do right is alienate their audience. I'm just about sick to death of this network already. They have made a pig's breakfast out of Design Star. Even David B. can't rescue it anymore. I'm so disgusted I can't even see straight. HGTV, if you're listening please listen to the viewers!! All of us can't possibly be wrong and Gen and Vern be right!

Got to say that the shipping containers are being purchased by survivalists and doomsday preppers as a place to bug out to. With that said, Leslies looked like maybe somewhat some of those may look like and it definately would look crowded which Leslie's appeared to do. Not at all the stlye Vern and Gen have supported all these years. 1 plus 1 doesn;t seem to add to 2 here. oh well, nothing new on these shows with them. At least she doesn't get her own show.

Maybe HGTV is doing this for ratings---maybe, this will be the first show to admit that they made a mistake based upon the passion of the viewers. Here's to hoping for the truth!
