Ahhh, now the big questions are: 1) Who all is going to watch it and 2) Who will the "most hated" designer be this year.
Would have to go some to beat last year's entry with her THREE...count 'em....THREEEEEEE magazine spreads.

Not planning to watch DS7. Haven't watched it since Season 2, so why break my own record.

But, it should be loads of fun reading y'all's comments: the good, the bad and the ugly. Big Grin

Synchronicity is an odd thing...Haven't even thought about DS when out of the blue last night it came up. P. asked/stated "you're not going to watch it this year, are you?". So I admitted it to be one of my guilty ( no Donna, not gilty) pleasures and proceeded to completely blank on last years winner. It took us both a good few minuted to exclaim MEG! Oh well, here's hoping for a less Jersey Shore version this May.

I'm looking forward to it - if only to come in here and dish and snicker and debate with y'all.

Thanks for your positive comment.
I hope I'm the winner for the new season 7 and that I please you.
Hopefully this time won't be nasty stuff like last year's.
Keep on watching!!

To be honest, I'm not going to watch this season. AS much I like Genevieve, I find her opinions so hypocritical. When you look back at all the crazy, crappy things she did on trading spaces, it was awful and she has the nerve to judge these people. Plus, still missing Clive.

I am looking forward to Design Star 7, although I am going to miss Candace as one of the judges. I suppose that she is too busy to participate this year.

I'll probably watch it, but more because there is so little on HGTV that I care for. I'm certainly not excited about it like I used to be.Since Candace was the best judge, they should just get rid of Genevieve and by all means get rid of Vern and start with a whole new crew.

I wish this organization had to courtesy to let know all entries that they didn't make the cut.

Coming in late to the party as usual - I didn't realize Candace is not going to be a judge this year, but can't say I'm surprised. Someone of her caliber in the design field probably doesn't have time for some of the nonsense that we've seen - I have a sneaking feeling she'd signed a contract and it's over with so she's outta there.
I agree about Genevieve (and have seen Vern do this too) dissing some of the contestants for doing the exact same thing she'd done on Trading Spaces. Still don't like her smirk.

They need to have judges who would give constructive criticism that would help the contestants.

It looks like the Host and Mentor will be David. No Tanika Ray. David can hold down the fort by himself. I am looking forward to this season's DS.

I would love if HGTV could get judges who are more visible in the national design field. Tom Filicia has a line of fabric for Kravet and a line of furniture for Vanguard. To me that is the level of professionalism and visibility that lends a judge some gravitas. Someone like a Jonathan Adler, Annie Selke, or a Kenneth Brown. It doesn't have to be the top tier, just people who have proven their abilities. I never heard of Vern or Genevieve before Trading Spaces, HGTV made them stars. Which for me is not the same as earning your stripes in the general marketplace.

I have seen Jonathon Adler on another competition show and wasn't nuts about his attitude. Kenneth Brown comes across as such a sweetie I just want to take him home and feed him peanut butter cookies and milk.
Yes, I couldn't agree more on your take on Vern and Gen - altho I like Vern's execution maybe a bit better than Gen's neither of them are qualified (IMO) to be getting all snarky with the contestants.

If the ads for Design Star are to be believed, it looks like there will still be the drama and friction on the show this year. I know those things are there, but the producers could tone them down and show the good feelings of the contestants.

There is enough feuding, fussing and friction in the everyday world that I don't need it when I watch a design/decorating show. This is just my opinion.

I just saw an ad for Design Star and when they showed the Judges looking at someone's work, Meg was there. She is going to be one of the guest judges? I hope they use some of the other winners, too.

Doodles I have heard that Jonathan Adler can be a pill. My personal feeling is that HGTV along with Bravo is in the business of creating "celebrities" not designers/stars. They keep their own designers rotating through their roster which creates an impression that these people are nationally sought after design professionals. Vern may be talented, albeit in a very formulaic style, while Genevieve pretty much has great legs and that's about it.

David won his celebrity, which is fair, but he's really not a "great" designer.

I'm partial to Nate Berkus, who was a designer first, and evolved into a T.V. personality. His work was visible in design magazines, and was very good on its own even before Oprah's sponsorship.

I've decided to ignore the commercials, and give Season 7 a fair shot. A lot of people like heightened drama, and BRAVOesque style T.V., so the door slamming and hissy fits we see in the teasers may only represent a fraction of what will actually happen.

Besides no other show on this message board gets more heated debate, so there is always that to look forward to!

I can't believe that HGTV has actually hired as one of the Judges Kris K.Jenner.
What in the world were they thinking.
I hate to be one of the designers and have to deal with the fact that this lady is going to judge my designs.

I was hoping that maybe they would try to tone down some of the melodrama this year, but the commercials certainly don't look like my hopes will be rewarded. Especially with the Kardashian woman apparently involved in some way. What on Earth are they thinking?

I may be mistaken, but apparently they will change judges most weeks, I just saw Daisy Fuentes as also a judge, so I believe that we will have three permanent judges and then guest judges.

Don't know for sure, rker, b/c I try to ignore commercials. Have seen a couple of promos within other HGTV shows and it appears they're using the 2 judges (Vern, Gen) plus a rotating judge/judges each week from various (mostly HGTV) programs.

Have no idea how that Kris K woman qualifies, however. Thought NBC owned or had an interest in E - not Scripps. (Glad to have never seen their program but isn't it on E?) Well, they're constantly promoting the RH (never seen any of them, thankfully), too and NBC owns Bravo, IIRC. Scripps must have some sort of interest in these channels -

Incidentally, the reason I said judges (plural) above is that I noticed the Kitchen Cousins guys on there in one promo. They were sitting together in the 3rd judge (i.e. Candice's old spot) so it appeared they counted as one. Looks like 3 judges, total. Another time it was Meg in that spot - and so on.

JMHO.

P.S. Wish I didn't know this stuff - more important matters going on in my life than HGTV! Oh well - we all need a little mindless entertainment and/or the fun of design, occasionally.

Frankly I don't think that HGTV has noticed but Design Star has run its course. Maybe after this season they will come to that conclusion.

Awww, c'mon. Rker - what other show (other than the dearly departed Donna Does Dallas) provides so much enjoyment, angst, sparks and just plain laughter in here?
I'd miss it if they took it off. My yearly guilty pleasure!

I reserve the right to retract any prior statements regarding DS based on a lack of information. HGTV's insistance on pandering to questionable celebrities like Dina Manzo and now Kris Jenner has left me disinterested in its offerings.

As Doodles has mentioned, it may be the message boards which hold the most interest where DS is concerned.

And Daisy Fuentes? What is this MTV Spring Break/Cabo?????

I'm waiting to see who this year's Cathy (with her THREE national magazines) will be.
Sorry, I know DS is really close to the bottom of the intellectual and design scale but I laugh myself silly every episode and then come in here to get a few more laughs. Y'all don't bail on me now!

Pretty much the same here, although I DVR'd sporadic episodes...and then mainly skipped to the end. I despise the childish, unprofessional, made-up drama by the participants andddddd the judges! Ridiculous!

A solution for this message board is to appoint one of us to see the program for that week, and then come here, and tell us all about it, so that then, we can come here and criticize and have a great laugh. But to make us all see DS that is not cool. :-)

Awwwwwwww....that's no fun. Sometimes things get lost in the translation. Who could adequately convey the death rays coming out of last season's Cathy's eyes?
