How about a task in which contestants figure out what to do with the cat litter? (no fair shoving it into the garage). And what about dog beds, the food bowls, the grooming tools? How about a hamster cage? How do you design around that?
I have seen shows in which the designer took the homeowners' pets' needs into consideration. Dog beds and feeding stations, hidden areas for a litter box, built-in aquariums, etc.
I think a show aimed at pet-owners could be interesting: have different designers do a room with the family pet in mind.

I watched Great American Handyman last night and the project was building dog houses for specific breeds of dogs. It was interesting to see what the contestants came up with.
With so many families including pets, I would think that HGTV would take that fact into consideration in their decorating/designing shows and do projects that included the needs of the pets. Even in the yard shows, they do not include dog houses or areas geared to pets.
