Given the limited information you gave to us and the only negative was Hiliari's color, which was not bad, explain why she didn't win.
She had the most thought out well executed outdoor space, she made her space flow and feel like you stay there, she explained the functionality of her pieces, and Gen the color was not flesh tone. The color combination is what you would have seen in nature.
HGTV since you are always asking me to do surveys I know you read the message boards.
The editing did make it seem that Gen made the choice. She didn't like Hilari's wall color and she said Leslie's space was "perfect".
I do wish they gave us a better insight into the decision making process. I thought they all did a good job with their containers. So why did they pick Leslie?
A little more information from the judges would certainly be useful! From what I've read on the message boards, most viewers agree that Hilari should have won. From the tiny bit of judges' discussion we were allowed to hear, it was apparent that Hilari was the strongest candidate. And Tom's classy (albeit expected) design seemed to come in second. And then Leslie wins?! Viewers heard and saw nothing that could have led to that result!
In recent years, I have questioned many of the programming decisions made by HGTV...good design shows disappear while "real estate visitation" abounds. Perhaps the decision to award Leslie over Hilari is just another decision made with an undisclosed agenda.
Okay...Leslie picks good coffee tables. Is this talent worth $25,000? And please: I am so over chalk board paint! That alone killed Leslie's design for me.
I used to say that the only reason I paid over $100 a month for cable TV was for HGTV. Now, I'm seriously questioning my investment into this rapidly declining network.
I looked at the photos and noticed that Hilari had a hanging planter. I think I am going to looking for something to make a hanging planter this weekend.
I just had the chance to watch the show. I agree with all who think the judges totally got it wrong. Hilari's container had amazing design elements. It would have been a nice place to call home. And, I'm sorry, but Ms. Gorder's scarf was almost an identical match to the color on the walls. She is one of THE most frustrating people on HGTV. Ugh! Leslie's "bunk" looked like something my family has rented through the years. It was a mish-match of things that someone would have found at garage sales and thrown in the room wherever there was space. It was not fun, relaxing or cohesive. Plus, I am very tired of every designer on HGTV using chalkboard paint on everything. Come up with something new. Tom's space was very Tom. In a large space, great. In a small small, no way. Although, he is a very talented artist. Lastly, Hilari was the best on-camera personality. Leslie and Tom are not watchable, especially their commentaries along the way. Carol, I noticed the judges did not mention Leslie's choice of coffee table this time. They have always raved about her ability to pick coffee tables, but this time it was way too big for the space and difficult to walk around. I thought "space planning" was a critical element in good design?!?
