Danielle's advantage for episode six - also double elimination. Sign In/Join

Vern told Danielle that winning would give her an advantage in the next challenge. I think she will get to choose her partner for the kitchen challenge. That's a good perk because winning usually only means they don't get voted off.

I wonder how many challenges each previous winner of Design Star won during their season? Anyone know?

Also this will be another double elimination week. I remember them maybe doing one double elimination a season. I wonder why they are doing another one, seems like that will really shorten the season. Maybe they are planning something special for the last episode....maybe a two parter?

I believe if I remember correctly that Meg won at least twice last season. I am thinking of the episode where she used the peg board and hung kitchen utensils and also the episode where she nailed the slats and shelves on the wall.

Meg won for that headboard in the B&B episode, the one none of us here really liked. I remember the peg board but don't remember her winning for it. I'm going to see if I can find the still photos from last season, I know this years says who won.

I just looked at the previews for the next episode and Danielle is paired with Britany, so if I'm right and she got to pick then there must be no hard feelings from the last episode. Maybe they just gave her some extra money in her budget. Smile

I couldn't find all the episodes for last season but I think Meg won 3 times. Her first was the B&B, then the one with the slats, and she won the little house challenge.

Kellie won the kitchen challenge.

I had totally forgotten that Meg won the little house, I loved Karl's so much that I would have bet money that he won. How quickly I forget!

Calliope, Thank you so much for these links. That is very interesting. I could not bring seasons 1 and 3 and 5 up. I will try to put the links in again and hope they work.

UPDATE: The link for season 3 works, but seasons 1 and 5 still don't come up.

Thanks Calliope and mriley for the links. That was a lot easier than looking through all the still photos.

There have been seasons with two double eliminations, season two had 3 double eliminations. But since season 3 there has only been one double elimination each season. Each season hasn't had the same number of episodes.

They haven't always picked a winner in each episode, some seasons show just a high or low. David had one win, Kim Myles didn't have any wins but some of their episodes didn't have a winner. Emily is the only one with no wins in a season were each episode had a winner.

Almost makes me want to watch each season again!

The links work if you add the closing parenthesis ) where they show up in black instead of blue.

It's interesting to see how some designers basically skated through to the end, while others had multiple wins and were sent home. This is most obvious in Seasons 2 & 3, which is probably why they got rid of the viewer vote.

There's been a lot of talk about how the judges take previous results into account, like Rachel staying even though she's performed poorly two weeks in a row. But if they were really running a tally on performance, some seasons would be very different. In Season 5, for instance, Emily was clearly in last place going into the Glass House Challenge (4 Highs and 2 Lows vs Casey's 4 Highs and 2 Wins). Did Casey mess up so much that the previous wins didn't matter?

Season 5 was the first one that I watched. They had a weird concept that season, each challenge the contestents had to pick something and use it either in the design or base the design on it. They used musical instruments in one episode, it was just strange. Vern and Gen were also very critical that season, sometimes they were just mean. I don't think that Casey's glass room was bad but they don't always pick the ones I like.

After Meg won last year and many on this board and on the blog complained, the producer said the judges spent 4 hours looking over everything Meg and Karl did before they made their decision. I don't think we have ever really heard the reasons why the judges pick who they pick. They say what they like and don't like during the walk-through, then the little snippets during the evaluations but I don't think we ever get a complete picture of why one goes and one stays. Rachel and Kris are a perfect example, Rachel's room was horrible, Kris's room was crowded but still had some good stuff. But Kris got sent home, we can only speculate why.
