I have been watching Season 1 again, when Alice and David were contestants and Clive was the host. What a difference! David is a great designer, but not so much as a host. The challenges were edgy and interesting. The white box challenge had to be done with $500 and by shopping at a non-traditional store-- pet store, beauty store, or automotive.
Challenges, like the designers, this year are BORING. It is the shortest season ever, and who honestly cares? Starting with the stupid name change. Once Clive left, the show started going downhill and this is definitely the worst season ever. Not to mention the judges are snarky and mean. Really a huge disappointment this year. Will not watch another season unless huge improvements are made. (HGTV-- are you listening to the comments on these boards???)
Also forgot to mention the stupid "tips" for the camera challenges, instead of letting the designers talk about the space they created. The tips are painful enough to watch the first time around, then we have to watch them again at elimination.
We're supposed to be given a useful design "tip" in 45 seconds. The poor designers are stumbling around with a topic that they appear to just be given, then the judges say they are unprepared.
What ever are the producers thinking?
