Leslie's room was the very best. I think that it was perfect, and I even loved the paintings. My eyes went straight to the red painting and I appreciated that its simplicity did not compete with the lovely room. Her room was gorgeous and it met the objective. It looked expensive. What I can say about Leslie is that she does her own thing, doesn't harass other contestants, and most of all, she is probably the only one who is goofy and energetic without it being contrived. That seems to be her natural personality. Next, Tom's room was the second best, in my opinion. My man rocked that room! He even went as far as making it look as if someone were actually living in the room right at that moment. I really loved his wallpaper. I agree with Genevieve that additional spots of color would have made it even better. However, his room was still beautiful on its own. I like the fact that Tom tries to stay true to himself. He seems to have the need to express himself through his work, which I imagine can be a good thing with design. Dan's room comes in third. Although the unique piece that he included was eye-catching and fit well in the space, I just thought that it veered a bit away from the objective of the competition. Dan is a very good designer and he always likes to come up with something unique and created by his own hands. I just thought that since the item was constructed (not purchased), he probably should not have won the competition. Hilari's room was the next best. I was not thrilled with her room, but can appreciate the fact that Hilari knows how to fill up and layer a space effectively. She also puts thought into staying focused and not deviating from the goal of the assignment. Sparkle Josh's room was, I am so sorry to say this, a mess. Nothing looked good in my opinion and nothing was memorable about his space. I do not think that Sparkle Josh is a good designer. He seems like a good person, however. From Season 2, instead of Josh, they should have invited Will Smith if Will were available. Will is one of the top designers out of all the seasons, I think. I would have called on him, Britany, Loni, Stephanie, and Karl or Mark from last year's season. Kellie's room was more polished than Sparkle Josh's, but it completely missed the mark in terms of following instructions. Those stripes were inappropriate for the purpose of the competition. I do not believe that Kellie can effectively design for a high-end effect. As I recall from the series, her furniture selections always looked like something from a second-hand store or a generic discount furniture store. If I had to place a level of maturity to her design, I would say that her designs reflect the efforts of what a budding adolescent would produce. I have always sensed that her ability was limited by her scope of thinking. She comes across as a small-minded individual and that is certainly reflected in her attempts at design.

I agree that Kellie needed to go - the other 5 designed rooms, and she was so zeroed in on a white box challenge and did not seem to hear David say emphatically that it was NOT a white box challenge

In his critique of the rooms, David said that Kelli did not use tape when she painted her stripes...so she did not get neat clean sides. He said this was a problem with her room. I wonder why she didn't use tape when she was painting stripes. That would have been cleaner, easier and faster.

The worst was Kellie. The best was Hilari. The best if he had more time to polish it off..Sparkle Josh. Toms was too manly for me and I hate brown.

messengerA brings up a lot of good points. I always appreciate a critique that uses logic and sticks to principles rather than just offering a personal opinion. My vote was for Tom because I thought the room looked like someone with taste actually lived there. Love Hilari's chemistry but the room seemed off balance to me. Something about the Chinoiserie etagere mounted on the wall(?), not sure. I thought Kellie's room looked very catalogue, not high end, and I thought Sparkle Josh's room, just like his clothes looked like expensive trash. JMHO

My favorite room was Leslie's. I could have easily lived there. The fireplace was a nice focal point and a great idea. I liked the painting she did and thought it complemented the room well. I loved the burgundy she used on it. I got a bit upset with David Bromstead's critique though when he said she shouldn't have done the painting as it looked "homemade". Hmmmm......every week on "Color Splash" David paints a picture for his clients. I guess when he does a painting it's art, when another designer does the exact same thing it's "homemade"? Sounds like he's become a bit of a diva. I thought Dan's highboy cutout was very creative. He's a great designer and really puts a lot of thought into everything he does. But, I didn't care for his accessorizing at all. Way too uniform and overdone. Every single shelf seemed to have the same things in the same groupings or order. It hurt to look at. He definitely did not need more accessories like he thought! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Oregongirl,
