I thought it was a very good episode. I was surprised when David said that HGTV had hand picked them as some of the most memorable designers from all seasons.

I was surprised at Tom's room, it was really nice. All I remember him for was the blue bathroom. I didn't like the drawings on the wall but overall well done.

I think it was a toss up between Dan and Leslie for the winning room. I think Dan got the edge for that cutout on his bookcase. Forget who said Leslie should just do a show picking out coffee tables.

Watching Hilari again just makes me realize how much she should have won Design Star. Gen said the citron green was her go to color, I looked at Hilari's work from Design Star and didn't see citron green at all.

I just love Sparkle Josh, I hope he stays for awhile, he had a goof this week but it wasn't that bad.

I really felt bad for Kellie, I think she had that white room challenge stuck in her head and really didn't understand when David said this is not the WRC. Of course when she made that remark to Hilari about being the freshman at the prom I felt less sorry for her. Just because Hilari was from the last season doesn't mean she just got lucky.

So Kellie went home, and I really think that was the right choice. I think she realized it when she saw all the other rooms.

I really liked this show. You could certainly tell the designers were a bit more experienced. Their rooms were put together really well.

I will be interested in seeing them work on the home of the dance team from Dancing with the Stars.

I think that comment Kellie made to Hilari was OOC (Out of Control). She had no right to say that to her, whether she was from last season or the first season... everyone that goes through these challenges puts in their fair share of work. The comment was tacky, distasteful, and uncalled for. But... there is such thing as Karma and thats exactly what happened in the end. While she was so quick to criticize she didn't realize her work was not on pointe herself (with her being so "seasoned" and all). Whatever!!! GO HILARI someone was drinking a little Hater-ade!

We only know what we saw and not what took place before she said that. What prompted the conversation, etc.. I thought she meant, they have been design stars at home done for a while and Hilari was just new for it fresh out as in Freshman. I missed a bit, so I really didn't see why it was taken so wrong??? Cause Hilari was fresh from Design star. Tv time wise it was if she hadn't even had time to go home and see and feel what the public had to say about her.

Sorry - don't buy that. It was a tacky comment. I realize these things are edited and all but why would you even say that? She acted like she was SO far above everyone else, especially Hilari.

I don't care for Leslie - she has an attitude also - but have to admit I liked her room. Really loved the dog Dan put in his room - very cool - but, of course he was right that he didn't get enough "stuff" to merchandise the bookshelves. This is not as easy to do as you may think. No matter how much stuff you think you have in the store those bookshelves seem to grow to double the size when you actually start putting stuff on them.
Sparkle, of course, was fun - as we all knew he would be and his light fixture was drop dead fabulous.
The judges were right about Hilari's chandelier - with everything available to her I'm surprised she wound up with such a blah piece.

Now - the only question in my mind is: will we ever see GG without a smirk on her face? Even when she's "smiling" she looks like she thinks she is so far above them all.

I agree that Kellie's comment to Hilari was off-base (remember Top Chef All-Stars? One of the 4 finalists was from the season that had just ended 3 weeks before filming began on All-Stars!), but so many of Kellie's comments this episode were nasty and conceited. I don't remember her that way from her season. Anyway, her design was the least successful.

On David's vlog, he says collectively they had about $2 million worth of merchandise in those rooms! Kellie's room didn't look like over a quarter of a million dollars went into it.

I couldn't figure out what Kellie meant by her remark, but it was clear from the look on Hilari's face that she was hurt by it.

With the exception of Kellie's room, I thought they all looked sensational. I had to agree with the main criticism the judges made of each room, but I guess they had to find one thing wrong with each room. I hope this challenge is a glimpse of things to come because this first one was definitely a big step up that showed us what each designer was capable of. Wow!

I have to say as a designer I loved this challenge. Something about giving people carte blanche to use anything regardless of price can really clue you in to their taste level and discernment.

While I'll admit a bit of a man crush on Dan Vickery my favorite room was Tom's. The room was sophisticated and chic while being totally livable. I thought it was the height of good taste. Well planned and well executed. Vern made a very telling comment when he mentioned the room would not "read" as well on camera as it did in person.

At that point a light went off in my head and my frustrations with HGTV in general were made clear. The design I am most impressed with includes a subtle layering of old and new, rough and smooth, serious and whimsical. The kind of sophistication that comes with experience. This is not to say that I do not care for Modern or trendy design. I look for work that is soulfull and classic regardless of style. I don't think these kind of qualities read on T.V. An editorial in a magazine that includes close up vignette shots can draw a viewer in unlike the quick pan of a camera. So I'm understanding why I don't see the kind of work I like on HGTV. Tom is an excellent designer, but perhaps that is not the criteria for success in this contest.

Now on to Sparkle Josh, wow! You are given the opportunity to pick anything you want from Ebanista, Andrew Martin, Baker, etc. and what you are drawn to is modern "Graceland" glitz and glitter? Too Vegas, too Kardashian flash in the pan glam for me.Only my opinion of course. If he's your cup of tea don't blast me. As we say in N.J. "just sayin' that's all"

Oh and BTW Goiter's comment about Tom's gorgeous wall paper being more successful had it been in acid green, shows me that the judges are looking for visual "pop" for T.V. more than they are looking for good taste. Tom, you probably won't win, but from one designer to another, you are a class act, buddy.

This week was easy, Kellie's room was a HUGE step below the other designers' work.

From here on out, I think the competition is going to be really stiff. They really brought back very talented people, and I'm really looking forward to seeing their work going forward.

I couldn't pick a favorite of the top 5. Everyone brought something special. I had to laugh at Gen Gorder's criticisms. I'd give any of the top 5 a show before I watched another one of Gen's atrocious trainwrecks.

I loved Tom's worldly, traveled theme. It was sophisticated and soothing.
