I am very disppointed that Kim Myles from Myles of Styles is no longer on. Her show was different, unique and she was such a likeable hostess as well. Someone described her as being the first African American to win HGTV Design Star. Yet her time slot kept being changed, consequently, her fans could not follow her. I did however see her on an episode of HGTV'D. But how is it that Candice Olsen, Genevieve and David Bromstad all have regular time slots??? I picked up the new issue of the HGTV magazine and Kim is not in there at all. HGTV, you can do better than that! This message has been edited. Last edited by: wonderwon,

Gail, she was on for at least two seasons and on several specials HGTV had that they advertised over and over. I'm thinking the real reason Kim Myles is no longer on is that she was given a crap budget to work with and finally told HGTV "thanks but no thanks". I personally like Kim but didn't care for her decorating and truly hated the juvenile "art projects" she involved the home owners in every week - but, if she had a crap budget you can only go so far and in that way it wasn't her fault. I'm hoping that Kim went on to Design School and has a good future ahead of her. Being on HGTV as a host/designer/celebrity isn't all it's cracked up to be. I wish Kim well doing better for herself than HGTV allowed. And, as for the other "designers" you mentioned, they're all at the mercy of HGTV's obsession with RE shows and absurb scheduling practices.
Oh, okay, I see. I wondered about the budgets and how designers are picked. Since you have explained some things, it does seem as if being on HGTV is not a great thing after all. Do you feel that some designers receive more money than others??I do wish her well too. Apart from the projects that she involved the homeowners in, I do miss her creativity and eclectic style. Maybe we will see her in something else more worthwhile. Thanks for the reply. ;-)

There are (I think) different ways HGTV goes about this. People like Candice or Sarah or even David have the budget their clients dictate. A show like Kim had gets what HGTV decides to give them which in Kim's case didn't seem to be much at all. Design on a Dime now has upped their budget to $2,500 for their new shows starting soon - still tight but more reasonable than the $1,000 they used to have. HGTV is (from the conversations I've had with a couple of the on air design "celebrities") ruthless and sometimes unfair with their "people". At the very minimum it's a lot of darn hard work for minimal rewards unless you're a fame hound the way some seem to be and being seen on t.v. makes you go to your happy place.
All I can say is WOW! Thanks for the info. What you have told me is definitely an eye opener! Does HGTV keep arcived DVDs of the shows that are no longer on? I used to like "Decorating Sense" with Joan Steffend, as well as Carol Duvall. I would love to have a few on file.
As far as I know, they don't have the shows hidden away in a vault somewhere, but it's possible. Decorating Cents was a fabulous show and I do wish it were still on. One of my collegues was on there a couple of times and gave me part of my "behind the scenes" view of HGTV. There were a few of the $500 designers that were a little ho hum, but I often saw things that got me excited. Didn't care much for the T2T segments but then, that's not my style. Carol Duval was much loved by many crafters out there. She made me want to climb a wall, but I'm not in any way, shape or form a crafter. I do appreciate the niche she filled and really wish HGTV would bring her back. BTW, I'm not affiliated with HGTV at all, except on these forums where I yell, scream, bash, compliment, cuss & discuss all the shows right along with everyone else.
