Britany was consistent throughout the whole Design Star season this year; Danielle was not. Britany's designs were better throughout the season, and she got WAY better feedback from the judges; Danielle got more negative feedback. Danielle was on the chopping block a number of times this season; Britany was not. Even if the judges liked Danielle's design better tonight and/or the "presentation" of her show, Britany's was different but just as good, if not better. The judges should have considered how the entire season went; in other words, who was the most consistent and performed the best throughout the season? The answer is easy: Britany. I don't know what they were smoking tonight, but Danielle was NOT the right choice. I am VERY disappointed in the judge's decision; Britany even got the most fan votes on HGTV.com, which shows that normal, ordinary, every-day people liked Britany and her designs the best. Danielle came in 3rd place in the votes. I think I'm done with Design Star and maybe even HGTV. The judges totally blew it tonight. I think that they should have 3 new judges next year, 'cause the CURRENT clowns obviously have their heads stuck in the sand!! Vern, Genevieve and David ... I have lost the respect I once had for you. Goodbye, HGTV!

Agreed...Brittany was the better of the two

I did think that Brittany was the better designer of the two, however that does not mean that I don't like Danielle. As for the so called "Fan Vote", I wouldn't put too much stock in that. You can get a group of people to go in and vote for a certain person. Look at last year's fan vote. For a long time the least likable person was leading the Fan Vote.

I felt this way last year when Meg won over Karl. I thought the final 4 this year were all good designers, last season I was amazed that Meg was even in the final. But I did try her show, don't really care for it, have found her observations of this season interesting. I still wish Karl had won but I also still watched this season.

Danielle is a very sweet person. So is my dental hygenist, but I wouldn't have her design my living room. The same is true for Danielle. In my opinion, her taste level is akin to a good home decorator, whereas Britany is a DESIGNER. Here is my case. (A) One of Danielle's goals was to showcase the artwork of one of her clients, yet she chose a super saturated color that was COMPETING with the artwork rather than ENHANCING it. (B) The color transition into her second room was disturbing; to my eye, there was virtually nothing linking the two rooms together. (C) The scale of the objects she used to create her room was a mishmash that ultimately failed. The huge hanging globe lamp was closely placed by a dinky little table lamp, the mistake of an amateur designer. (D) Space planning was poor. The family of four had woefully little seating space in their new living room. (E) Accessories were randomly tossed about rather than carefully considered and placed. E.G., the strange horizontal book holder/sculpural piece in the corner that was virtually empty save a few pitiful books on the bottom shelf. By contrast, Britany's room was unified by color and pattern, the scale was balanced (especially for a television audience), and the accessories used artistically and with restraint. How sad that the judges have so lost their way that they reward "flash" over design skill. Someone would need to tie me down in the room to watch next season. Bobby Baby, you said it much more eloquently than I ever could. You said everything I wanted to say but couldn't articulate. Yep, next year, they should change the title of "Design Star" to "Design Dud"!!

Overall, I liked them both but until the previous week, thought Hilari would have won if she hadn't been judged off.
I liked the family photographs and the overall black and white theme of Britany, but to put those photographs on such a busy wall?
I'm sure we all have parts of each room to love and hate, but the judges said they had to pick who they'd rather watch every week. Still hard to judge. But maybe Britany's makeup artist shouldn't have given her those painful ugly black spider eyelashes and lifted her dead hair a bit? But really, I'm sure that's NOT why they didn't pick her. Just what I saw each week....just like those silly little Bek's hats...like the silly ones the English wear to weddings...LOL!
BTW, I like Meg's show and personality. Much more that that other goofy woman from the time before. I can't remember her name, but after a couple shows, I gave up on that one. This message has been edited. Last edited by: jvelo,

The show should be renamed Personaility Star.Danielle was clearly the chosen one given the number of closeups she was given throughtout the season. Although she was more comfortable in front of the camera, she was not the best designer. In fact I thought Britany and Hilari would be in the final. Britany was the superior designer throughout the season. Danielle's work was hit or miss and last night I thought a lot of clutter and poor flow.If I want a personaility will watch movie stars. I watch HGTV to inspire my design style and see things I would never have thought of. My favorite show was Designing with the Sexes and the unfortuately deceased Michael was not easy on the eyes, but his designs were and I never missed a show.Danielle is easy on the eyes but her designs not memorable.Britany's designs were awe inspiring. As mentioned earlier similarly Karl was the better designer last year. HGTV should rethink the goal of this show and who their viewing audience is. One more thing, please don't include any Kardashians on future shows. They are not the type of family I want my daughter to emulate. This message has been edited. Last edited by: em62,

I agree that the judges, especially Gorder and Yip, need to go. Smarmy, insincere, fatuous, inconsistent, and WRONG most of the time. I wasn't terribly invested in who won, as the designers I liked were long gone. But I was shocked that the criteria seemed to be who could produce and star in a show that was identical to every other show on HGTV. I felt there was an iron-clad template that everyone had to adhere to, the same old formula repeated endlessly: schmooze with homeowners, joke with associates, do some godawful redesign, and watch homeowners coo with delight during reveal (how I long for someone to say they hate what the designer did to their home). HGTV really needs to shake things up and crack open this formulaic programming. I won't be tuning in to see someone tell me how to look for unusual things while shopping.

Nice to see I am not the only viewer that thought Brittany should have won. In my opinion Danielle's enthusiasm sounded fake/forced. I was disappointed when Meg won last year. I for one will not be watching Danielle or Meg....in my humble opinion both of their styles were cheap looking.

Em...we used to watch Designing with the Sexes. I didn't know that Michael Payne died, though. At one point they changed hosts but I thought that was an HGTV decision. We still watch Candice, although her show has changed somewhat, along with her crew.

I just did a search online and saw no indication that Michael Payne has died. Maybe em62 means that Michael's show is now defunct. According to his bio, he's living in California with his wife.

Britany was very consistant, but I wonder if she was able to be flexible in her designs? It all looked the same after awhile ( updated Hollywood Regency ) Britany was basically another Candice, except shorter and not as confident in front of the camera.
Danielle was inconsistant in her design process, had time management issues, but had better "stage presentation" on her camera work. I think they picked her as a better TV show host then as a true visionary of design.
Hilari was robbed IMHO !!!

I agree in that Hilari had the total package. I felt bad to see her so muted in the finale. We only saw a moment of her sunny, engaging personality in the clip from Danielle's test pilot.
Danielle's pilot was clearly superior to Brittany's show. Brittany kept saying she was a photographer but she seemed to hold the camera like a novice, not a professional. I even caught her pretending to take a photo of the test pilot family with the lens cap ON the camera. Oops.
Brittany did not interact well or naturally with the camera or with the real people in her shoot. Finally, her excessive makeup was off-putting and made her hard to look at without thinking she needed to de-glop while she de-signed.
Congratulations to Danielle. I wish you well. I liked your yurt. ;>
