I'm tired of the following:

1. Attitude of the hosts-please wait whiloe we debate or however Vern puts that.
2. Lack of true constructive criticism and positive comments for odd items - so much focus on stupid stuff like coffee tables and light fixtures.
3. Lack of true design opportunities - how many designers for shows like HGTV airs would involve designing for a party or Hollywood event? Its as if they are grasping for concepts to judge contestants.
4. Inability to include common things like framing childrens art of family photos instead of creating some of the stuff they come up with.

I was just thinking how much I missed the "Vern Yip from Trading Places" as I watched this week's DS. He used to be warm, welcoming, and friendly while still being a good designer. Now that he's a judge he's turned cold and catty. Genevieve is a little better. I would love to see Sabrina Soto as a permanent judge.

I don't know if you two watched a couple seasons ago when Vern and GG were so nasty and demanding and plain mean to the contestants? This is an improvement, but I agree that Vern and GG aren't exactly warm fuzzies. GG has a permanent smirk on her face - and Vern seems to epitomize the "short man syndrome". At least this year they do point out some good work.

While I agree with much of what you have said, "stupid stuff like coffee tables or lighting fixtures" can make or break a room and be the difference between a room that is ho-hum or spectacular.

Haven't had a chance to watch it yet this year. Is Candice still a judge?

I think this show has run its course. The original judges were from the design field but outside the roster of HGTV groomed "celebrities".

Now that HGTV/ Scripps sees themselves as star makers, the entire premise of the station is flawed.Overt Heavy product placement only adds to their obvious marketing tactics.

This is probably what is necessary to keep the station going, but the catch-22 is, the more vapid you make something the quicker it becomes obsolete.

No, she isn't. I think she was "sort of" a judge last season but was gone about 75% of the time. It's my opinion (and of course, may be totally off base) that she contracted to do it for maybe 3 years and after the first year was realizing what a major mistake it was and used whatever loophole her attys could find to get out of it or as far distanced as possible.

ITA, doodles. Had a feeling her contract ended and/or she had a clause written into it, allowing her time off to attend to both her business and her dh's.

Besides that, I don't believe this year's LA location would work for her. Had to wonder if that's one reason they returned to the West Coast.

I still miss Cynthia and Martha as judges. I always felt Cynthia put a lot into it and got very emotionally involved. At least the two of them weren't catty and so full of themselves.

Agree completely. Plus they had both carved out a design career well before D.S. I think the issue now is that HGTV is only interested in promoting their own "home grown" celebrities.

I think the title of this discussion should be changed to "Need new judges" not new host .
