What new changes would you like to see for Design Star 3?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OH RICKY! WAAAAAAAAAAAA! |
I would like to see the judges change. I like the judges but feel it's time to change. Let's get Lisa LaPorta, Page & frank on there. I like the idea to rotate one of the judges weekly.
Also I would like them to do an office for a family business. A real family business with 1-4 people who work there. |
Where do I start? There is a need for a lot of improvements, IMO.
Less focus on drama, and more focus on talent * New judges that do not work for HGTV * More individual challenges, and no more group challenges * do not let the recipients of designs judge the contestants * and most importantly, have truely talented and qualified applicants who can offer a high quality show once chosen. I think that selecting some unqualified applicants (especially the one who "won") and using HGTV employees and affiliates as judges really hurt the credibility of the show. I hope they make many much needed changes, because this is a fantastic show! |
I have read several comments on changing the judges to include those who are not HGTV employess or affiliates. I think that's a great idea. Also, it would be nice if they selected real designers as contestants, instead of actors.
But just as soon as they become a judge then they become an HGTV employess or affiliates.
I like the show alot, and I would only have a couple of suggestions for change. I'd like to see really good, talented folks in the challenge. There always seems to be a few "oddballs" in the mix.
Secondly, I agree with Cat... don't let the recipients of the challenge judge the work. As far as the judges go, I like the panel, and hope they keep it. They all have a good 'eye' and aren't afraid to express disapproval. When does the show start? Judib |
I just think we need to judge on not only personality and working well with otherse but as Everyone agrees that we want to see more emphasis on individual talents before eliminations. So the really talented are not eliminated before we can see their work. Those who could have qualified to please us were eliminated because of one bad decision.
As in Ramona or who ever was planted for the first drama elimination....forget that.... its not needed don't bother bringing in somone just for drama. And as is Leaping Todd, we need to see personality and habits. or Ranting Robert; yet it may not have affected the design. We need to eliminate based on that more at the beginning. Though we would not all agree on who, I am sure. If we could only get our imput in there. We have to change much, so they do not come prepared for the same old same old. Yet again a good designer would know how to come prepared. No matter where their purchases would have come from. And finally in my opinion this show should not be based on Verns likes and dislikes and his running the show. He is not the only one who is a good designer on hgtv. Different styles known in the decorator/ designers judges. Once a show starts there is things that bother some people about the presentations, photography, etc so i hate to say that it is second in importance to me. I can always forward the tape to the end result. In the end I would like the designer capable of giving me a wow as well as on another day something i'd like to crawl into to be comfortable. The rooms all look alike, special needs, special requests personalities, all lead to the one I just read on the blog. Redone rooms in a elderly retirement home. It is all in one. Great idea.
Each room would end up being different with still the same beds, paint or not paint the walls. etc. They could use some decorating in their lounge areas as well. Redesign small trailers [ the kind that has a smooth extior finnish like a toaster or not the modern mobile homes, ]with some talented handyman at their side for the hard to know carpentry and skill. Maybe the theme and design to the exterior as well with use of talented. painter. Those old ones redone show creativity. This message has been edited. Last edited by: loverofdesign, |
Delysia,
Are you the one who had the game going last year. I forget all the details. It was about some of the stars. Was it if Tod did some leaping the players took a drink. If it was I can't wait to hear the rules of the game. Points maybe if they say "xxxxxxxxxxx and not in a good way. ellle belle, I don't care a fig about the grammer. It's what you say that counts. in my book. This message has been edited. Last edited by: loverofdesign, |
Unfortunately, it was not me. But maybe the person who did last year will do the same of DS3. With everything going on in the good ole USA these days, we could use some frivolity. Live Aloha |
No wannabe designers. They should be up and coming designers qualified to give design advice on national TV. Either that or change the prize to a vacation package.
I maybe a little late 'coz I just joined the message baord. I agree that we need to see new faces. I vote for David Bromstad. He knows what it is like first hand what to do in a show to be successful. He is very talented and have avery nice personality. He had to prove himself on his show Color Splash and indeed he had. I'm very happy to learn that his show will go on. I like Candice Olson too. I say to keep Vern. I think these 3 talented designers have eyes for talent.I watch the reruns on weekends and their programs are always right after another. HGTV knows they are the best (in my opinion). Last years winner, Kim, may not be the best choice, but I don't knoww who should have won. No one really stood out unlike DS 1, were you can tell that David was the one.
oopps, what I meant was have David, Candice and Vern be the judges for DS 3
I'd like to see up & coming designers who can prove they have what it takes to have their own show; also, have challenges that are group oriented 1st, then individual, then record them describing what they did. I'd also like to see other judges, such as: David Bromstead, Lisa Laporta, Kim Miles, & have an editor from a Home Imporvement magazine, instead of a style-like magazine, to represent other designers.
Ohhhhhh Karen, what a great idea on a third judge - an editor from a Home Improvement magazine.
In another post, I had suggested an organizational expert or a Feng Shui expert. I just really think they need to add the input of someone who can address how a room WORKS rather than how it LOOKS. Last year Todd won a challenge with the blue room that looked like it was surf crashed. Much of the furniture was broken and crashed against the wall - a BIG blue wave was painted on the wall. It was an art piece. And probably a well done one if you like that kind of art. But it was NOT a livable room. My favorite design mantra is form follows function. Make it WORK good then make it LOOK good. ************************** Begin as you mean to go on... |
OK, my top 4 suggestions are not new but here they are:
If not new judges then add some guest judges from the ranks of HGTV designers. "Top Chef" does this with celeb. chefs and it works very well. No more allowing clients to eliminate someone!!! No eliminations until we've seen their individual work. That means not eliminating someone in the first show and not basing the first elimination on the results of a group assignment. More contestants with professional experience. |
Start off with an individual challenge. I want to see the contestants work alone, not as a team, the first week or two. Maybe after we have a feel for someone's talent and strengths, then break them into a couple group challenges.
Unfortunately, they are using the same judges as last year. I only hope that the judges do not repeat the same mistakes.
New judges, although that didn't happen. Qualified contestants, although only 2 show in their bio are trained designers. SOS, same old?
There have been a lot of good suggestions. I would just say no more bizarre art since it's not an art show but a design show. Also more realistic traditional/contemporary/transitional designs. But whatever they do, please, please give us good, trained, up and coming designers.
