Dod the designers go back and finish the things they didn't do right? Did they add a screen to keep the play area separate from the trash? Did the art work get put up? What happens?

The designers do not go back. According to homeowners from last season they do not leave the items that don't get displayed or hung. I noticeed in episode 4 that some pictures were leaning against the wall so maybe it got changed this year.

A few seasons back they did a kitchen that had a lot of unfinished stuff, the show sent a team that fixed things that weren't safe but did not finish the room. I wonder if that's why the last two seasons they have done the kitchen challenge for Sears as a photo op not for a real family.

Possibly so - I'd think nobody but the most desperate to be on T.V. home owners would allow contestants for DS in to do their kitchen after seeing the horrendous mess that is usually made of it.
