I am hoping there will be a "surprise reveal" of a hidden elevator that goes from the garage to each floor. It sure would be nice for people who have trouble with stairs. Even a dumb-waiter would help for groceries, etc.

I am thinking there is NO elevator...I am very dismayed as this is not the only house that is not accessible for someone that may be disabled..
I really do wish a smaller house would be built...even after the cash prize between taxes to be paid for winning etc unless a huge family with a huge income is living there it becomes unaffordable

I'm glad there isn't an elevator. I would be afraid of aligators using it to get up to the upper floors. And don't say it can't happen!They haven't survived thousands of years because they are stupid! I'll bet you never saw one in a remedial algebra class did you!

I'm definitely in favor of an elevator or at least a dumbwaiter -- Mr. Bill's fears about alligators notwithstanding! If one were to become disabled, even temporarily, there's no way to get into the house without needing to climb a long flight of stairs.

I also would like to see a full bathroom on the garage/playroom level. Having lived in a beach community, I can tell you that being able to take a shower (a real shower, not just a rinse-off) on the ground level before entering the house proper would be very convenient.

well Mr Bill...gators use elevators because their legs are too short to climb stairs, of course.

Goodness I watched the DHspecial again today and really was pondering all that sitting water and it's hatchery potential both for gators and squito's....how much time can be spent relaxing on deck before we have to submerge and hope our little pool is critter free...

Oh my....that was the gator that was "trick or treating" at Mr Bills house last Holloween.

We really do need an elevator in DH2013 glad gators really do ring the door bell first trick or treat. And maybe the smell of DEET won't be so bad. ....btw PEACE ROCKS!!

speaking of "gators".....my first time visiting Kiawah Island (about 30 yrs. ago) my husband won a weekend trip from a company incentive. I was in the gold cart and while we were waiting on the group ahead of us, he pulled out his ball retriever and thought he would look along the pond's edge for lost balls.
I'm sure you know where this is heading....he was looking down and jumped back! then quickly came back to the cart where I was! There was an alligator sunning himself on the bank.
I'll never forget that and can't wait to be able to "move into my dream house" on Kiawah Island.....

Brings to mind the disclaimer usually issued to combat DH phobias...simply DON'T ENTER!!!

I am envisioning my dream porch now screened in...not that this deals with the gators but research still needs to be done on gator deterrant that still falls within LEED requirements.... Maybe Music1871 can investigate tunes that make the gators SOB (swim on by....).

...and PEACE certainly does ROCK....good one BL...

The nook in the entryway is where the elevator would have been -- they decided not to put one in. This is briefly mentioned in one of the slideshows.

Nice catch, kimkay! I'm glad somebody's paying attention during those slideshows! Yes, I can see how an elevator would fit in nicely there. Handy to the kitchen and pantry, too, when coming back from the grocery store. I think the important thing is that there's a place for an elevator if the owner wanted or needed one.

I thought I had heard or read that the plans had originally had an elevator...but was swaped out for a powder room and bunk area.

Now you have me wishing for a dumbwaiter like in DH2004 to haul up groceries.....sigh.....did not think of that facet...

Too funny Vinnie....guess we would need a security camera to boot...surely if they can ring door bells and turn knobs, they can figure out a simple lift system....lock controls must be secure... Any gator with repeat attempts would have to be relocated....

The butler pantry and the bunk area were originally pegged for the elevator, but personally i like the bunk area and the pantry.Stair walking is good exercise.

I agree with nursejudy, taking the stairs is good exercise. Unfortunately, when an accident or disability confines a family member to a wheelchair, stairs become major obstacles. Actually, if it weren't for the stairways in this year's Dream Home, the house would be nearly 100% handicap friendly! Luckily, it's an issue that can easily be remedied with the installation of an elevator, for those families who need it.

Yes one could adapt it if it was needed.
