When I first read through the rules of eligibility to enter, I didn't see anything about travel being required, say if you were to take the cash option.

Now that I fully read to the bottom though, it sounds like if you are unable to travel for whatever reason you pretty much forfeit the whole thing. I guess HGTV wouldn't allow a sub (a family member?) to visit the house for the Winner Weekend if the winner was unable to travel to avoid a forfeit?

It's a shame I just read down to that stipulation now, unless I'm reading it wrong. Thanks for any insight you guys might have on this. Smile

Most of the rules are written to legally protect hgtv and the sponsors from someone being very, very unreasonable about their conditions of "winning". In the real world they're probably much more flexible about many issues therein, and will only pull the official rules clauses out if mutually agreeable conditions can't be met.

HGTV's payout on this giveaway is publicity. No winner on site, no publicity, or at least no good publicity. I think they are very clear: if you can't travel, you can't win. I hope you registered in someone else's name also, like, a spouse or a child.

My bags can be packed in less than hour.....just tell me ANY weekend to come claim my prize!!! No problem at all.....less than a 4 hr drive; I'd drop everything and be there!

The rules say 4/25 to 4/28 for the weekend trip, and it's at the sponsor's expense. Doesn't say when you take possession of the home though.

My guess is being a large business they schedule out shows, air time, personalities, and film crews way in advance for this. If winning 2.2 million dollars is too large an interference to ones personal schedule, then fine.....draw over and give me a second chance.

Oh it's not a scheduling problem. I wish that was the only problem, lol. It's health related really. Makes traveling very hard.

Thanks for the replies everyone and good luck to you all. Smile

Well, if there are health related issues, they may just have to take you there in a private jet instead of making you ride on American. Or they could decide to take a surrogate instead.

It is kind of curious when someone says that?
I hope I am not carrying this as an issue-too-far, but I think the poster implies that
entering one who doesn't know at that moment you entered someone him/her, (incapacitated being an exception) could run into a problem?
I am supposing that HGTV can identify, if necessary, the computer which produced the entry, as is the case in most legal awards of this kind?

It was so neat watching your winners weakend per video. Your home was my all time favorite.
I wish we still made the beautiful quilts presented to the winner. Glad you got one.

I am not sure what you said, TangoW, but if you are implying that two or more people entering from the same computer is against the rules, you're wrong. As long as each person is a legal entrant: spouse, child, parent, anyone of legal age and with a separate email account, it's fine. I wrote that I hoped she entered someone else's name, meaning for someone else in her family so at least she would have a chance of winning, because if she won in her name and couldn't travel, she would forfeit.

I used to also enter for my husband on my computer. No problem since it was using his own email account.
I wonder what would happen if you entered a spouse's name and when they won, they had no idea they had been entered? Imagine HGTV filming at the house and the winner claiming he had never even entered! LOL

What if we tell them we entered their name, but if they win, the house is in our name? LOL

This is not the place for legal talk. Laws vary by state.

Correct Chuck and the information would vary with each individual as laws vary with situations, states, etc., anyway.
